Eastbourne Vacations: What To Do When You Visit Britain’s Sunniest Town

by The Diva

The town of Eastbourne is located on the south coast of England in the county of East Sussex. Eastbourne vacations have been extremely popular with British people for some considerable time. However, it’s popularity really started to increase when the railway system first ran to the town in Edwardian times.

When you visit the town you you’re not restricted to just the town’s many facilities. The towns of Brighton and Hastings are within easy reach. If you choose Eastbourne as a base, you’re well placed to explore Beachy Head Cliff or watch the wildlife on the South Downs.

As you’d expect from a seaside resort, there are plenty of beaches and which are afforded some shelter as it lies beneath the cliffs to the East. You’re almost assured of good weather as the town records high sunshine hours through the whole year.

Of course, you’re not restricted to building sandcastles on the beaches, there are 4 theatres in the town, as well as a number of parks, a band stand and some museums. So you will certainly find that there is plenty for one to do and see when you stay in Eastbourne. There is plenty of local transport to get you around or you can take a stroll through the streets if you prefer.

As mentioned one of the most popular attractions for those who take a vacation in Eastbourne is Beachy Head. It’s located towards the west of the town and it rises 530 feet (162 metres) above sea level. When you get to the top, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views and if it’s a clear day, you’ll be able to see as far away as Dungeness in Kent.

The nearby Abbots Wood should also be on your “to do” list. This historic woodland is one of the best that you will find in the country. The peaceful setting will allow you to unwind and enjoy being at one with nature. The woodlands are home to many different wildlife species and lots of different species of trees and other plants.

During the summer, the town also has a number of boat trips available. Lasting around 60 minutes, these trips offer a leisurely view of Beachy Head and the nearby coastline. The trip generally starts from the town’s port and will head out to Beachy Head peninsular before heading back in to land once more.

Paris What to Expect on Your First Trip

by The Diva

Paris city of romance and dreams has always had a enormous pull for the tourist and for the last 200 years all roads have been to Paris

Whether your ideal lodgings in Paris are a central Paris hotel choose something memorable for your stay.

Choose the neighbourhood that works best for your trip. Arty Montmatre, the laid-back left bank or something further out on the Metro line they all have their advantages. A self-contained Paris apartment all offer something – decide what is important to you before making a booking.

Here are some suggested must-sees for a first time visitor to Paris. The extensive, reliable and cheap metro makes it easy to get around Paris regardless of where your hotel is located
Remember to hold onto your wallet tight, especially when the hoards descend on you trying to sell the usual tourist junk at popular locations such as the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre|Notre Dame Cathedral.

Montmartre
In the north of the city Montmartre is the traditional artists, bohemian quarter. The steep streets are a challenge but the reward is making it to the huge Sacre Coeur Cathedral. From the cathedral are stunning views across the heart of Paris to the Eiffel Tower. Montmartre is also home to the famed red light district and the Moulin Rouge, offering a blend of gimmicky and genuine places of interest.

Champs-Elysees
Although an attraction in itself, the long and wide Champs-Elysees boulevard is often a pleasant departure from the more built up areas of the city. Tourists are unlikely to find a cheap Paris hostel along here, however. However the many luxury 5 star hotels are nearby.

At one end of the Champs-Elysees is the Arc de Triomphe: one of the city’s must-sees, honoring the soldiers that fought in France’s wars. It can also be an amusing place to watch cars carefully navigating the bizarre Charles de Gaulle roundabout (nicknamed L’Etoile, or star), a scary piece of road engineering even in Paris. As a predestrian avoid death and take the underpass.

Llandudno Attractions: What To See and Do When You Stay In Llandudno

by The Diva

Llandudno in Wales is one of the country’s premier holiday resorts and is situated in the County of Conwy. Because of this, there are lots of attractions in Llandudno that can be enjoyed by everyone in the family whilst staying in this beautiful coastal town.

The town itself lies between two very carboniferous headlands known as Great Orme and Little Orme. The town faces the Irish Sea on one side and to the other is the estuary of the River Conwy. It is not only these headlands but also the West and North shores which make this location so appealing to tourists.

The Great Orme reaches a height of 680 feet and is home to Tudno Church, the Great Orme Copper Mines and is a stop for the Llandudno Tramway.  Also living here are more than 100 Kashmiri Goats and were originally gifted to the town by Queen Victoria after she received them from the Shah of Persia.

As for Little Orme, but it is still 463 feet high and is the ideal location to view the Great Orme, Anglesey and the mountains in Snowdonia. Its cliff face offers bird spotters the chance to see razorbills and cormorants. Further back in time, one of its caves held a printing press that printed various Catholic prayer books.

In the town itself, you can visit The Alice in Wonderland Centre which features all sorts of characters from the famous book. Llandudno was chosen to host the museum as Alice Liddel lived in the town as a child.

As you’d expect for a coastal town in the UK, Llandudno has a pier. The structure was actually designed and built in only one year by James Brunlees and Charles Henry Driver and then officially opened in 1878. If you choose to walk along the pier, you’ll come across a number of small, ornately decorated, buildings that house a bar, cafe and amusements. Plus there are even ones selling gifts that you can take as presents for family and friends.

During the summer months, the Isle of Man Steam Packet launches from the pier. You can choose to sail across to the Isle of Man on your own or as part of one of the organized trips. The pier itself since first being constructed has several extensions and has been renovated as well and it now measures a total of 695 metres.

Visiting Nottingham, the home of Robin Hood

by The Diva

The city of Nottingham is the largest of all cities to be found in the East Midlands area of England. Over the centuries it has been home to many different races and cultures. n Anglo Saxon times it was home of a Saxon chieftain named Snot and was dubbed Snotingaham. The Vikings took over the town in 867 AD and it became one of five fortified towns that they held.

The city is well known for lace production, the town’s fame was for religious scupltures, constructed from alabaster. At the time of the industrial revolution again it was renowned for the textiles that were manufactured in it. Nottingham remained famous for this trade until the end of the second world war, when cheaper imports became more widely available. More recently, a lot of the buildings used for producing textiles have been restored and put to other uses.

So what can you see and do when you stay in Nottingham?

1.     The Tales Of Robin Hood – Go back in time to the medieval forests that were reputedly used by Robin Hood and his Merry Men. There is not only wonderful films and live shows to watch and enjoy but there is a ride available in 7 languages and you may prefer the experience of a medieval banquet.

2.    The Galleries Of Justice – Trace three hundred years of crime and punishment in the city. Situated at the heart of the Lace Market which means you can find it in the city centre. The site was used as a court and a prison until as recently as the 1980s. One of the highlights of the museum is a reconstruction of a Victorian courtroom which houses re-enactments of trials and witness the prisoner being sentenced and then taken down to the cells. If you have time, you should take a trip around the medieval caves below the courts.

3.    Wollaton Hall – Just a short trip from the city, you’ll find this historic building and its grounds. Tracing its roots back to the time of Queen Elizabeth I this was designed by Robert Smythson and was completed back in 1588. Along with being able to explore the house and the museum of Natural History there are also some five hundred acres of parkland surrounding the house. For those who like to get involved a visit to the Tudor Kitchens is something that should not be missed during your visit to this attraction.

Make sure you book your Nottingham hotel from this list.
