My husband needs to get a new job

by The Diva

I think it’s about time for my husband to start looking for a new job. I was just saying in my last post that my husband will be going through a two week temporary lay off at work at the end of December. Doesn’t that suck?

This will be his fourth temporary layoff at the hospital in just over a year. I’m right aren’t I – it’s time to look for a new job. Trouble is … he loves his job … plus, as most of you probably know, the economy isn’t that great so there isn’t a lot of great jobs out there. I think right now my husband would be willing to take a part time sales job over the Christmas season would be nice.

There’s just been so many budget cuts at the hospital – that’s why they keep doing these temporary lay offs. I don’t know how they expect to keep employees though!

One of our neighbors works for our city bus company – the TTC and he keeps telling my husband about various job openings, so my husband is going to put in his resume with the TTC and hopefully he’ll get called in for an interview. Certainly if my husband could get a better job we’d be in a lot better shape financially.

Time to cut down on expenses

by The Diva

I’m scrambling to see where my husband and I can save money once again. My husband came home from work on Friday with the lovely news that he was going to be “temporarily” laid off work for the last two weeks of December.

That means he’ll have been laid off for a total of 6 weeks since last December.

Since I’m home on unpaid medical leave we really depend on my husbands income. We pretty much live pay check to pay check … so each time he goes through one of these one or two week lay offs it takes us about a month to recover, sometimes longer.

So … now I’m trying to find ways to save money on our bills and other expenses. I think we’re going to cut down to the bare minimum. Perhaps I’ll be searching around for insurance quotes again to see if we can cut down on what we’re paying for our house and car insurance too since even that went up this year.

Does your doctor weigh you every visit?

by The Diva

I have an appointment next week with my family / pain doctor. I see her pretty much every single month.

Considering that I have a chronic disease that causes me a lot of pain and discomfort I guess it sort of makes sense that I see her on a monthly basis, but sometimes it’s the last thing in the world I want to do.

One thing that I used to the every time I went to see this doctor was that she’d always make me jump on the scales each and every visit.

Until recently my weight hadn’t changed – not in about a year and a half … so I just didn’t understand why she was so fixated on weighing me on a monthly basis. It didn’t make sense. I guess it was just something she did each visit as part of her routine?

Now I don’t mind getting weighed each month because in the last two months I’ve lost something like 18 pounds thanks to a migraine medication that I started taking at the end of August. I don’t weight myself at home so the weigh ins at the doctors let me know how much more I’ve lost between visits. If and when the weight loss stops I’m going to tell her to stop weighing me so much though because I really do hate getting weighed every month.

New Home Security System

by The Diva

We were talking to our closest neighbor the other day and they were telling us that sometime this week their going to be getting a home security system installed.

They live in a corner house and they have a young child so they’ve concerned with child safety and security as well as home security. Corner houses always seem to be a little more vulnerable to break-ins, and vandalism.

Their little girl has health problems and one of the very nice things about a home security system is that they often have emergency buttons that you can press to contact either the fire department, the police or call for an ambulance. They’re very interested in this feature. I certainly hope they never have to use it though!

My husband and I have often thought about getting a home security system. Maybe we’ll look into the company that they’re using and finally decide if we’re going to get a system or not.

Ready for Halloween?

by The Diva

Our next door neighbors house is all decorated and ready for Halloween. I just noticed that they had decorated yesterday.

Their daughter is two and a half this Halloween so I guess they figure she’s old enough to enjoy the holiday. I haven’t seen them yet so I don’t know what they’re dressing her up as, but I’m sure she’ll be cute since she’s an adorable little girl.

I really like the pumpkins that are on my neighbors front porch. Instead of one or two large carved pumpkins they have 6 or 7 small pumpkins that have painted designs on them. It looks really nice. LOL they usually have things like power wheels and dolls on their porch so the decorated pumpkins are a big change.

We used to decorate our house, but we haven’t for the last few years. We don’t have kids so it seems like a lot of work for just one day. Still .. maybe we’ll haul out the decorations.

Do you decorate for Halloween? Or whether you do or don’t decorate, do you answer the door at Halloween and give the trick or treaters some candy?
