How do you stay active when it’s really hot outside?

by The Diva

I have to find a way to get more active! As I was just saying on one of my other blogs … it’s been very hot here in Toronto lately and as a result I’ve been trapped indoors where it’s cool for the last couple of weeks.

I’m feeling the lack of activity! If the heat doesn’t let up soon I think I might start getting out of shape (not that I’m in the best shape anyway, mind you) and gaining weight. I might have to look into getting some Lipovox! Just kidding.

I think what I’m going to do is try to get outside in the early morning or in the late evening when it should be a little cooler outside. I can at least take a long walk or a bike ride in order to increase my activity level and not feel so house bound.

How do you stay in shape when it’s too hot for outdoor activities?

Waiting for a house guest

by The Diva

Don’t you hate waiting for a house guest when you don’t know when they are going to arrive or even if they are coming at all?

That’s what I’m doing right now. Late last night we got a call from my husbands mother asking if our nephew could stay over this evening. He’s been doing extra work on a TV series being filmed here in Toronto and sometimes the work runs until late in the evening and then he has an early call the next morning. Since he lives out of town it makes sense for him to stay in the city if he can.

So .. we said yes … but it’s 8:30 pm and we haven’t heard from him yet, so I don’t know if he’s coming or not. Maybe his casting call for tomorrow morning has been canceled so for all I know he might be on his way home right now.

I hope he shows up. We cooked extra food for him. Plus, the last time he was here he told us about a friend of his that has really bad acne, so I spent some time looking for the best acne treatment and printed out some info for him to take to his friend. If he ever arrives I can give him the information.

I guess I’ll have to wait and see if we have a house guest tonight or not. Hopefully he at least gives us a call.

Trying to decide what to get my husband for his birthday

by The Diva

I just realized that my husbands birthday is coming up. It’s next weekend! He’s going to be 45.

In our home we don’t care all that much about birthdays, but 45 is a big birthday, so I’m trying to think of something nice to get him.

He’s actually been playing softball with a team from work once a week this summer … so maybe one of those personalized baseball bats would make a nice gift.

Music is his world though. He plays guitar and 13 other instruments. You wouldn’t believe how cluttered our house is with instruments and music related items and equiptment. If we weren’t already watching “It might get Loud” on TV right now I’d get him that DVD. He’s certainly enjoying watching The Edge, Jimmy Page and Jack Black talk about guitars and their musical backgrounds and what they think of the music industry as it’s evolved in their time as musicians.

Maybe I’ll take a look around and see if I can find some more music (guitar) related documentaries on DVD that I could get for him. I know he’d love it.

Any suggestions?

It’s going to be a busy weekend!

by The Diva

I think this is going to be a busy weekend.

We’re planning on going to a few free events including Toronto’s Beach Rib Fest, Luminato and maybe the Taste of Little Italy.

The Much Music Awards are also taking place on Sunday … who knows maybe we’ll visit Queen Street West and see if we can see anything. I know we’ll be able to hear it if we go to the general area, even if we can’t get close enough to see any of the five stages that they’re setting up.

All I need to do before I start my busy weekend is try to talk to a friend who’s convince she needs to buy phentermine in order to lose weight. Actually I should tell her to come along with us to all the events we plan on attending this weekend … that’s gotta burn more than few calories. Of course we plan on eating some of the food at Rib Fest and Taste of Little Italy – but only a little. I’m sure all the walking we’ll be doing will help balance things out.

What are you up to this weekend?

When will the new neighbors move in?

by The Diva

I think our new neighbors might move in sometime soon. They’ve had possession of the house next door for about two weeks now and they’ve been coming by to clean and paint the house.

I’m not sure what they’re doing as far as renovating or repair the house goes. I’ve heard a lot of hammering and banging, but it doesn’t seem like they are doing a lot of new work. unlike us when we got our house – we were at our house every day for three weeks tearing down walls, refinishing floors, plastering and painting before we finally moved in … whereas our new neighbors have only visited their new home about four times since they got the key.

Anyway, since it doesn’t seem like they’re doing a lot of work to the house I expect that they must be almost done cleaning and painting so maybe they’ll move in this weekend. If not perhaps the following weekend. It can’t be much longer.

One thing that I liked about moving to our house when we got it was that it was a chance to get new furniture. LOL I loved preparing the rooms and then picking out new contemporary furniture that would look great in each room. As it turned out we didn’t have to buy a lot of new furniture as we had quite a bit in our apartment, but I did get to get all new master bedroom furniture and a year later we got new living room furniture.

We haven’t talked to the new neighbors very much, but they seem nice enough. That’s all I’m hoping for anyway … I mean, we have to share a tiny driveway and our houses are very close to each other so it’s important that we’re at least on friendly terms with our neighbors. Hey … they’ve got to be better than the awful renter neighbors that we’ve had to deal with for the last year.
