Stopping Headlice Re-infestation

by The Diva

It’s one thing to employ proper headlice treatments when an outbreak occurs, but what about the cleanup? As with most pests, head lice cannot survive extreme heat. So, the best course of action in cleaning them out of your home is to dry everything that you can fit into your clothes dryer. This is great for stuffed animals, rag dolls, bedding, pillows, all sorts of clothing including towels, washcloths, etc. A timed cycle of around 15-30 minutes should do the trick.

I’m sure you have heard the suggestion that putting your clothing or stuffed animals into sealed plastic bags will suffocate head lice. This is not the case. More likely, by putting them into plastic bags the lice die of starvation. But there is a chance that doing this will not kill the lice and therefore a re-infestation can occur. This is not the case with putting articles into a high heat dryer for 30 minutes.

Obviously not everything will fit in your dryer. So, for things like carpeting and furniture, it’s best to vacuum everything thoroughly. Be sure to throw away the vacuum bag inside a sealed garbage sack, or empty the debris container for bagless vacuums, and remove it completely from your house. An outside garbage can is best.

There is no need to vacuum for 30 minutes in one concentrated area of course. A few times over the area will do fine.

You may also want to try creating your own “natural” repellent spray that can be made by using an average sized plastic spray bottle with about 20 drops of 100% Tea Tree Oil and water. Lice, among other pests such as ticks and mosquitoes, do not like the smell of Tea Tree Oil, and so it is a terrific choice for a repellent.

Once you have your mixture, simply begin spraying it on your furniture and carpeting. You needn’t over-spray and completely saturate your furniture. Lightly spraying will do the trick.

Of course, while this guide is for “natural” remedies, if you still feel unsafe about the conditions of your household items where lice can survive for a few days, then you can use a de-licing spray. But this is solely at your discretion. Vacuuming should work just as well. I hope these tips will help you in the future should you find an outbreak in your family.

New Baby Blankets for New Babies

by The Diva

It’s becoming far too common to hear about infants who have born into difficult circumstances. If the mother has struggled with drug addiction, or the baby suffered during the delivery and has serious health concerns we often feel as though we wish there was something we could do to help. Thankfully there are many organizations that are now initiating blankets for babies which collect new blankets for deserving infants .

It’s not only children who have suffered some trauma during delivery that are in need of the comfort and security of having a blanket of their own. Infants who have been born into families that have limited monetary resources also can benefit with a blankets for babies campaign.

If you can’t find one of these organizations in existence in your local area, consider visiting the hospital where you live. Quite often a hospital with a maternity wing will gladly collect blankets for babies . Some will be used on premature and full-term infants during their stay after birth others will be given to mothers who are less fortunate.

Another way to get involved is to take up the cause. Almost every charity including those focused on children are looking for volunteers. Inquire about what you can do to help and be prepared to hit the pavement in search of blankets for babies. Helping in this first-hand way will give you the satisfaction of knowing that you are doing everything within your power to get blankets for babies who truly need them. You’ll feel good about your efforts knowing that you’ve helped improve the life of a little one.

For most of us though, it is a real joy picking out baby blankets for boys and girls . Some women take it a step farther and decide to give a handmade touch to their contribution. Many people are skilled in the crafts of quilting, knitting and crocheting. A baby blanket is a chance to give that same comfort to someone else. If you pick up the perfect blanket for a baby, you can be sure that it will be remembered for their whole life.

Making blankets for babies by hand and then donating makes for a lovely gesture. Imagine the joy in the face of a mother who can’t afford a special blanket for her baby to be given something handmade with love.

The knit blanket is one of my favorite type of baby blankets. The knit or crocheted blanket blanket for babies are classics. They are thin, comfortable, warm and safe.
