How not to sell a house!

by The Diva

Last week our neighbors house, which is for sale (remember the bad renter neighbor stories?) had an open house. Just for the heck of it my husband and I decided to take a peek at the house.

I know the house hasn’t had any renovations … possibly since it was built in 1927 … but we were still curious to see if our neighbors family had decorated the house to prepare it for sale … Uh … the answer is NO. A big no!

The house is mostly empty … which is fine. I don’t think a house necessarily has to be dressed up when it goes up for sale … an empty house can allow prospective buyers to picture their own furnishings in the home.

However I don’t agree with what our neighbors family did. As I said they left most of the house empty, but they put what appears to be office furniture in the living room and dining room.

It just looks … odd.

They also took out all of the appliances! Why? I’m fairly certain that if you’re trying to sell a house for a good price you’re probably more likely to make a sale and get your asking price or higher if you have all the appliances (washer, dryer, fridge, stove etc) in place.

This is definitely an example of how not to sell a house! LOL

I guess it will be a while before we have new neighbors!

I need a spare Laptop

by The Diva

I was just saying on one of my other blogs that I’d like to get a spare computer. Either a Mac or maybe a Netbook.

So I’ve started scanning the stores and online shops for laptop deals. I think overall I’d prefer to get a Mac because I can do more with it than a netbook, but price is a factor as we don’t have a lot of spare change these days.

A Netbook would make it easier for me to just go outside and do a little work on my sites, but a Mac would let me do everything that I already do now with my PC laptop.

Which would you chose? Help me make a decision.

Why is the price of everything going up and up?

by The Diva

It seems like the cost of everything is going up, doesn’t it?

Groceries is more expensive, especially fresh produce! Then there’s the cost of electricity and home heating … both of those bills went up for us this year too. Just how high do they think they can hike the rates anyway?

Now we just found out that our car insurance is going up … even though both my husband and I have absolutely perfect driving records. No tickets, no infractions – nothing and we’ve both been driving for over 20 years … so wouldn’t you think our rates would go down, not up?

So now I’m trying to find car insurance cheap if that’s at all possible. Perhaps we’ll try calling our insurance company first and ask them why our rates are going up so much. It’s just unbelievable.

Are you as frustrated as we are with the price of just about everything going up so much?

Time to shop around for a new insurance company

by The Diva

In a few weeks it will be time to renew our home insurance (and car insurance too). Unfortunately the prices have gone up … quite a bit.

I think I’m going to spend some time this weekend looking on line for some decent home insurance rates. You’d think that since we tend to combine our home and car insurance that we’d get a slightly better price, but the company that we’ve been using for the last nine years doesn’t seem to car this year as they hiked the rates!

It’s weird too because we’ve never put a claim in and my husband and I both have excellent driving records with no tickets or any other kind of driving offenses. So it’s strange that they’re hiking the rates, but I think they’re doing it across the board to all their customers.

Anyone have any suggestions for some good Canadian insurance companies?

My back is killing me!

by The Diva

I can’t believe how much my back is hurting!

I was outside yesterday evening and for about 7 hours today doing work on my garden. My back is feeling it and it’s complaining!

I wish I could go see a chiropractor or get a massage but I don’t have health benefits anymore. hmmm maybe I should look for some really cheap insurance so that I can at least get a massage or some physical therapy when my back is killing me like this.

What do you think?

In the meantime I’m lying on the couch with a heating pad. The heating pad has become my best friend when my back acts up.
