A mass of guitar equipment

by The Diva

I’m sure anyone that’s been reading this blog or any or my other blogs regularly knows that I’m back in renovation mode these days. Along with renovating our house comes cleaning and clearing out rooms so that work can be done. It’s amazing the stuff that can accumulate in a house over the years isn’t it.

My husband is a musician and I didn’t realize it, but he has musical equipment all over the house! Guitars, cords, microphones, music stands, music books, mbox interface equipment, amplifiers, guitar peddles and so on. There’s so much musical equipment I don’t even think he was aware of how much he had. Perhaps it’s time for him to take a good hard look at what’s here and if he’s not using it maybe we should have a yard sale or sell some it online or something.

I don’t know – perhaps he won’t go for that idea, but we have a lot of clutter and something needs to be done about it! Clutter wise he has more than me.

Summer in the city

by The Diva

Toronto is such a great city. There’s so many things to do – especially in the summer. I like trying to go out to some of the food festivals and some of the music festivals. There is also several cultural and arts events going on.

Well there’s so many things going on it’s hard to keep up. You could do something almost every day if you wanted to and most of them for free.

One of the things that I haven’t done in quite a while is use Toronto’s fantastic bike trails. I have a pretty bad hand injury right now so I can’t ride my bike at the moment but when my hand is feeling better I think I’m going to put the bike rack on the car and get my bike and go and visit one of the great bike trails and take a long bike ride. It’s great exercise and the trails are quite lovely.

in the meantime, though, until I can get on a bike, I see what else is happening in Toronto and go and enjoy one of the great events that’s happening in the city.

You have interesting things happening in your city? Do you try to get out and enjoy local events?

More delays in renovating and cleaning

by The Diva

My husband was supposed to have several days off this week but it hasn’t turned out that way. He ended up working ten hours today and now someone has called in sick at work for tomorrow so he’s going to be working tomorrow. I guess we won’t be getting some of our renovations and basement cleaning done as we’d planned.

We were going to continue to finish cleaning the basement tomorrow. Chris has a lot of his music equipment in the basement. Not his guitars, but other things like his K&M Stands, his music books, his favorite stools to sit on when playing guitar on the road and so on. All of that stuff needs to be organized.

It’s amazing how much music related stuff has accumulated in our home in the time we’ve been together! Oh well, maybe we’ll sort out all this stuff on the weekend or next week.

A musical day at the hospital

by The Diva

My husband works at the hospital that’s just down the street from our house and every year the hospital happens to put on an annual Christmas show. My husband, being a very talented musician almost always participates in the musical part of the show.

So for the last two months or so he’s been pulling out one of his gibson guitars and practicing with several other people from work – doctors, nurses and other hospital workers on a few songs that they planned to perform at the Christmas show.

I had thought the show was going to be on Thursday and I was going to go to it, but it was actually today! My husband came home from work this evening and told me all about it. He said everyone seemed enjoy their performance and that someone was video taping so I might be able to catch some of it on the hospitals website.

The Ron Sexsmith Documentary – amazing

by The Diva

My husband and I are just watching the Ron Sexsmith documentary. He’s such and amazing musician – so talented and yet so undiscovered.

The documentary is kind of sad in a way because it seemed like he’s spent his whole career struggling pretty much in poverty, yet everyone seems to be so much in awe of his talent. I live in Toronto and I remember seeing him perform live in a bar in the early 90’s and just being blown away by his talent back then … it’s sad that he still has to struggle to make it in some ways.

I believe he actually had a new album coming out. I’m going to do a search when I finish this post and if I find it I’m going to buy it and play it so loud on my stereo that it blows the speakers right off the speaker stands lol.
