Birds on a wire

by The Diva

I saw something the other day that I don’t think I’ve ever seen before …

I was standing in my kitchen after having just fed our dog. I was waiting for her to finish eating and then I was going to take her outside to do her business. As I waited for her I stood looking out my kitchen window into the backyard.

As I gazed out I noticed two birds on the electrical wires leading to our house. One bird was on the top wire and the other was below it on the second wire. The second bird flew up and looked like it was trying to land on the first birds back. He only did it for a few seconds and then he’d fly down to the second wire for a few more seconds before repeating his move.

It only took me a few seconds of seeing this odd repetitive behavior to realize that the birds were mating. LOL

It certainly didn’t look like a very safe place to mate! I kept thinking that both birds were going to fall off the wire each time the male landed on the females back for a few seconds. Hmm I wonder if they have life insurance quotes for birds? It looked dangerous … but, hey, maybe these birds were thrill seekers.

I guess the male visited the female about 10 times before he flew off into another yard. The female waited around on the electrical wire for a few minutes before she flew off in the opposite direction.

No cuddles for them!

I felt a little bit like a voyeur watching their intimate moments, but hey … they were right out in the open. Have you ever seen birds on a “wire”?

Spectacle with Elvis Costello

by The Diva

Have you ever watched the show “Spectacle with Elvis Costello”? A new season just started last Saturday and my husband and I just getting around to watching the first episode. Yes we taped it.

My husband is a musician so watching a program with musicians improvising and jamming together can be slow going as my husband stops and starts the program or even watches some sections in slow motion so he can see what they’re doing on the guitar. LOL Anything to learn more ! Even though he’s an excellent guitarist in his own right.

He also stops the program to write down musicians names or names of songs that we’ve just heard for the first time so he can try to find it on the internet and perhaps write about the artist on one of his guitar blogs.

I enjoy the show but I’d sure love to watch one from start to finish without stopping and starting every few minutes! LOL

Warm enough to wear shorts?

by The Diva

Last week was so warm here in Toronto that people were actually wearing shorts. Personally I don’t think it was quite warm enough for shorts although it did reach about 65 F or so.

It was nice to get a taste of summer! I enjoyed the warmer weather by getting outside everyday and opening up the doors and windows for a while each day to air out the house. I also enjoyed seeing some of the guys in the neighborhood in their shorts. LOL Some of them appear to have gained some muscle over the winter … either they’re working out or using some products like bsn cell mass.

I don’t know what they’re doing, but I can tell you that I don’t mind a bit of eye candy! LOL

It’s cooler this week, but I think that once March is over we’re going to have nice weather … unlike last year which gave us a cold spring and summer.

Was it warmer in your area last week too? Did you get an early taste of spring or summer?

Any suggestions for hooking up our Wii to our new thin plasma TV?

by The Diva

We got a new plasma TV last weekend and after spending a few hours hooking up our DVD player, DVD recorder, cable box PVR, cd player and home theater we found that we were at a loss as to how to hook up our Wii to the new TV.

Our TV only has one component/composite hookup on the back! My husband somehow piggy backed the DVD player and DVD recorder and hooked them up to the home theater system and then the home theater system has component plugs that go to the TV.

But how are we going to hook up the Wii? We tried plugging it into a few of the open spaces in the back of the home theater system and in a few cases we either got a picture or the Wii sound and once both – but the picture quality was horrendous.

Right now the only way that I can think of to use our Wii is to unhook the current component cables that are in the back of the TV (as Samsung PN50B850) whenever I want to use the Wii. That’s going to suck! Plus if I don’t start working out with my Wii again I might have to start looking for fat loss supplements. LOL

Anyone have any ideas as to how we can hook up our Wii to our mostly HDMI one Component to the back of our Home theater system successfully?

Trying to decide if we should hook up an iPod to our home theater system

by The Diva

My husband and I decided to buy a new TV … oh about three weeks ago. Since that time we’ve been waiting for our new Plasma to come into the store. Sad that you have to wait so long for a new TV these days isn’t it?

We bought a new TV because our 2004 DLP TV seems to be dying. We think there might be something wrong with the DMD board as the picture just freezes and goes black and white every now and then (about once a week). We know our DLP’s days are numbered!

We decided to replace the DLP rather than repair it because in the 6 years that we’ve owned it we’ve had to replace the light bulbs two or three times, had to replace the color wheel – at a total cost for all of these items of about one thousand dollars! Fixing the DMD board would cost approximate 800 to 1000 dollars … we just can’t see pouring more money into this TV. So we’ll put it in the basement and use it occasionally until it finally dies.

So … while we’re waiting for our new TV to come in (the store says it will be in on Friday!) we bought and hooked up a new home theater system. Lets just say that hooking up the new home theater system to the DLP wasn’t a piece of cake! It took hours and hours! Tested our marriage a bit too. LOL

Anyway …now the system is working and when we get the new TV we should only have to move a few wires (components) from one TV to the other and hopefully everything will work just fine.

One nice thing about the new home theater receiver is that we can hook up a special iPod dock to it and play music from the iPod through the receiver. We do have a 200 disk carousel CD player hooked up to the receiver but it’s old and I’m sure we’d get better sound if we used an iPod … or rather my husband is sure of that.

Of course … we don’t have an iPod (or the accessory docking station) so I spent a little bit of time earlier today looking at the various versions of ipods. I think if we’re going to buy one I’d get a classic iPod that has 160 GB of storage. We have a LOT of music on the computer and on CD’s – enough that we’d probably come close to filling up a classic iPod.

So before we go out and spend another $350 to $400 getting an iPod and the special docking station that works with our Yamaha receiver let me ask you a question – Have any of you run your iPod through your Home theater system? If you have, how is the sound?

The reason I’m asking is, if it’s not going to make a huge sound difference we might as well keep using our 200 disk CD carousel until it dies on us too. However, if there’s a major sound improvement (like full true 5.1 sound) we might go ahead and splurge to make our sound system complete.
