Dry cracked skin

by The Diva

Talk about strange internet searches. Earlier today I found myself on Amazon looking for Udder cream.

Why?

Well a long time ago my mom brought home this cream that she’d purchased while she and my dad were vacationing in Texas. My mom used to always get dry cracked skin on her heals and in the winter the skin on her hands, especially her fingers, would get so dry that sometimes it would crack and bleed.

So she found this cream that was originally made for putting on cow udders or teats to keep them from cracking.

Now this was back in the 80’s or maybe early 90’s … before it became quite common for people to use products made for cows.

Anyway .. back to my search for udder cream. I kept getting results that brought up face cream but of course that wasn’t what I wanted at all. I eventually found the exact product that my mom used 20 or so years ago and it’s Bag Balm. Hey … I was close … udder, bag … LOL

I was looking on Amazon, because, even though I could remember the exact name of the product I knew I could find it if I saw it in a department store or drug stores beauty aisle, but I haven’t seen it. Unfortunately for me, Amazon.com doesn’t ship this product to Canada. Hmmm.. I forgot to check on Amazon.ca but then they don’t have half the stuff that the US site does so they probably won’t have it. Now at least I know the name of the product and I can ask around.

I hope I find some soon … my heels are awful! No matter what I do I always get hard skin on the edges of my heels and the sides of my feet … I think that if I can get my hands on some Bag Balm or a similar product it might help.

Anyone know where I can get some Bag Balm in Canada? Toronto to be exact?

How do you take care of your skin?

by The Diva

I guess I’ve been fairly lucky to be blessed with good skin. Actually my whole family has nice skin and I guess you could say good genes as far as aging goes, because everyone in my family, from my parents to my brothers and sister all look at least 10 years if not more younger than they actually are.

Oh sure, I had some skin problems when I was a teenager. A little bit of acne and some blackheads but nothing too bad.

I do battle enlarged pores on a constant basis though. If I don’t take care of my skin -well, especially on my nose, I’ll get some blackheads.

Lately I’ve taken to cleaning my face with Noxema. I did that when I was a teen and about a month ago I started using the skin cleanser again.

What I do is get a face cloth and wet it with hot water. I then place the hot cloth over my face to open up the pores. Then I gently massage some Noxema into my skin and rinse it off with a warm cloth. When I’m done cleaning my face I rinse the cloth out in cold water and pat my face with the cold cloth to close my pores.

My skin always feels fresh and tingly clean when I’m done. I like washing my face that way in the morning because it’s invigorating.

At night I usually just wash my face with a mild soap and then use facial creams that are meant for night use.

I guess that since I have Crohn’s and I’m sick quite often it’s at least nice that I have fairly good skin and look younger than I am.

How do you take care of your skin? Have you had problems with acne, blackheads or enlarged pores?

A sign that I’m getting older?

by The Diva

I hate getting older!

Earlier today I was taking a good look at my face. Why, I don’t know … but either way I was standing close to the mirror and taking a good look at my skin and low and behold I think I found an age spot on my left cheek.

Can you even get age spots on your face? Ahhhhh!

Whatever it is, it’s quite faint … maybe it’s a faded freckle? I have fair skin and I tend to freckle in the summer sun, but that’s mostly on my arms and shoulders. Yeah … maybe it’s a freckle. LOL Well whatever it is, now that I know it’s there I guess I’ll keep an eye on it over the next few weeks and see if it gets bigger or darker and then decide what to do about it.

Don’t you hate getting older? Not that I’m that old, but I guess my body is telling me that I’m starting to age a bit.

I need to find a good under eye cream

by The Diva

Earlier today I wrote a post on one of my other blogs ( My World) about how I haven’t been taking care of my skin as good as I should be.

I have fairly good skin and thanks to good family genes everyone in my family tends to look at least ten years younger than their actual age … but still, I think I should start using moisturizer regularly again.

Yes I’ve slacked off in the last few years. I used to use moisturizer daily but now that I’m home pretty much all the time I just don’t use it and my skin seems dry and dare I say even a little bit dull?

I have some good day and night moisturizers but now I’m trying to find the best under eye creams. I don’t get enough rest because I just don’t sleep well, so I often have dark circles under my eyes. I know that a good under eye cream can help.

Do any of you know of any good under eye creams that will not only moisturize, protect the delicate skin under the eye and also help to eliminate dark circles under the eye?

Before and After Microderm Photographs, Hints and Tips

by The Diva

An incredibly important influencing factor in making sure that your skin continues to look young and healthy, healthy and young is to begin a regular skin care regime. In their desperate search for the fountain of youth our scientists have developed all types of skin care products for our use. Wild and wonderful announcements are often delivered about the amazing results gained from using it. Annoyingly these claims are most likely simply false and little or no, real, evidence actually exists. As more of us search the Internet in the hope that we find a treatment or product to maintain our good looks, more of us are fooled by this style of advertising. Sadly skin care and microdermabrasion organizations are often as guilty of this practice as others.

Having a regular skin care regime is only the first step in reaching the targets of young, vibrant and healthy looking skin. More often than not we are required to go that little bit further and discover something that works for us. Not so long ago this meant aesthetic surgery but happily this is no longer the truth because microdermabrasion is available.

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive treatment that is well known for it’s astounding results. Annoyingly many of the microdermabrasion web sites, in their attempts to get visitors to use their treatments and services at their beauty salon, aesthetic clinic or spa, present photographs which are not exactly a true representation of the results gained there. Therefore, it is very important to take steps to find out the true levels of their skills. One of the easiest and best ways to do this is to simply request examples of the results that previous clients experienced and also for any recommendations made by such. You can ask colleagues, family members and friends if they have heard of their reputation or have been there themselves. If it is true that they have a good reputation then it is highly probable that they are also good at microdermabrasion.

If you are planning to have some microdermabrasion treatments there is a variety of factors which you should be told, especially in respect of before or after microdermabrasion. Before your sessions start you will have a consultation with your aesthetic technician who will inspect your skin and decide upon the best pretreatment. For sessions of microdermabrasion it is commonly the case that you are told that you should use some of their products and include them into your daily skin care regime.

After microdermabrasion treatments you may appear a a slight amount of pinkish in the face. Do not fret as this is usual and it will quickly reduce. However you should not expose your skin to too much sunlight after microdermabrasion as the skin is sensitive and might be damaged.
