Makeover Procedures for Mommies

by The Diva

One of the most significant turning points in a woman’s life is to become a mother. It is definitely among the most fulfilling moments that define the essence of being a woman. Motherhood, without question, is the ultimate transformation. A woman feels a rollercoaster of emotions once she enters this stage in her life – joy, hope, fear, insecurity. That is why many women seek the company of fellow mothers and even books for whatever support they may gain. Most of the available resources such as parenting books, journals and magazines, dwell on childcare concerns, tips and issues. There are very few materials that focus on the subject of the care and development for mothers.

Every mother wants the best for her children. So, when a woman gives birth to a new child, she wants to do things right from the very moment she holds her infant in her arms. One of the things a mother would naturally desire to do is to breastfeed. Today’s society understands the benefits of breastfeeding to babies. That is the reason why it is highly promoted everywhere. The new mother, then, carries her newborn and does one of the most phenomenal things in the world. By providing milk from her breasts, a woman guarantees the best nourishment for her baby. Breastfeeding, in fact, is not only good for babies. It also gives health benefits to mothers. According to some studies, breastfeeding gives a mother the opportunity to bond with her baby. That allows a mother to understand and know her baby better which results to being able to provide proper caring and nurturing of her baby. In addition to that, breastfeeding is also said to burn calories, allowing the mother to lose some of the weight she gained during her pregnancy.

It is a fact that a woman’s body also goes through some sort of transformation when she becomes pregnant and gives birth. It is one of the primary reasons why a woman starts losing her self-confidence, despite the joys of motherhood. Breastfeeding alone not only causes the breasts to sag, but can also enlarge the nipples and the pigmented area around the nipples called the areolas. These changes are often permanent. Many people may not understand why, but it can become one of the biggest concerns for a woman.

Lucky for mothers of today, there are available technological advances in the field of cosmetic surgery that they can turn to for their concerns about their bodies. Breast cosmetic surgeries have become the most sought for procedures nowadays and are especially popular in the greater New York area. There are many different breast improvement procedures that women would come in for. Some of them include breast enlargement, breast reduction, breast lift, breast reconstruction and more. The beauty of mothers’ youthful bodies will be once again achieved through these cosmetic procedures. A typical New York breast cosmetic clinic can perform all these breast procedures at the highest stanards, applying the most advanced medical techniques.

Many new mothers seek a breast lift procedure or mastopexy to elevate the breasts on the chest wall and in the process reposition the nipples and areolas. However, breast lift surgery is a procedure that solely solves the problem of sagging breasts caused by breastfeeding, among other things. It does not restore the fullness and the original round shape of a woman’s breasts. If mothers seek to add more volume or form to make their breasts fuller, they can always resort to breast augmentation.

Breast enlargement or breast augmentation is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgical procedures in the United States today. It is done by the insertion of implants into the breasts. Breast augmentation usually takes only between one and two hours to perform. If no complications arise during the surgery, recovery time only lasts for one week. Breast enlargement procedures are performed in a number of ways. They vary in incision type, breast implant materials – silicone gel-filled or saline-filled – and implant placement.

As mentioned above, the areolas and nipples also change in size and shape when breastfeeding. Good thing there is a breast cosmetic procedure to take care of that. The areolas are a part of the body that are usually neglected. That is why areola reduction procedures are hardly ever considered when women go to their doctors for the concerns on their breasts. The process is done by lessening the pigmented area around the nipple base or the outer portion of the areolas. An areola reduction procedure is usually performed with nipple reduction. In this case, the nipples may be moved to a position that would be appropriate for the improved areola size. All throughout the repositioning process, the nipples remain attached to the underlying tissues so they can retain natural blood flow and sensation.

These procedures will definitely take care of the issues mothers have with their breasts, especially after breastfeeding. Having too many procedures to be done, however, can be overwhelming for mothers. The good news is that all of these procedures – breast lift, breast enlargement and areola reduction – can be done at once, saving time, shortening the recovery period, and allowing mothers to quickly return home to their loving families.

Is A Candida Yeast Infection Really A Fungal Infection?

by The Diva

candida yeast infection

Many people don’t realize that a candida yeast infection is really a type of fungal infection. Many people are surprised to learn that not only mushrooms, but yeast, mold, and mildew are all types of fungus.

What Is A Fungus?

A fungus is almost a “missing link” between the animal and plant kingdoms. Fungi (plural of fungus) used to be considered part of the plant kingdom, but actually, they’re more closely related to the animal kingdom. Biologists now assign fungal organisms to their own kingdom, the fungi kingdom.

Different Type Of Fungus

Some fungus grow only on dead things. Think of this type of fungus as mother nature’s clean-up squad. We’d be up to our necks in pretty gross stuff if it wasn’t for fungi!

Other fungi are parasitic, since they enjoy dining on things that are still alive. These parasitic fungus become pathogenic, or cause diseases when they take up residence on people, plants or animals. Parasitic fungi are the ones who cause all the trouble.

Fungi are not always bad. A mushroom is a fungus, yet mushrooms are found on the menus of many fine restaurants. Penicillin is an widely used antibiotic that is made from a type of mold. Yeast is a fungus that helps bread rise, giving people around the world delicious breads and pastries.

Are All Fungus Infections Yeast Infections?

No. Yeast is only one type of fungus that’s present in our bodies all the time. Candida yeast is a normal inhabitant of the digestive tract that usually isn’t a threat. It’s job is to ferment food, which helps us to break food down into nutrients usable by the body.

Common fungal infections include ringworm, athlete’s foot, swimmer’s ear, toenail and fingernail fungus, and candida overgrowth.

So A Yeast Infection Is Really A Fungal Infection?

Yes, it is. A candida overgrowth is a type of fungal infection.

An imbalance someplace in a person’s body can produce candida overgrowth. A vaginal yeast infection, or candida infection, could be explained as a chemical breakdown in the vagina. Instead of performing protective functions, the yeast fungus grows too fast and multiplies above normal.

Candida symptoms are often seen after a course of antibiotics, in pregnant women, or if there is too much stress in your life.

Although all yeast infections are really fungal infections, not all fungal infections are yeast infections.

Are you troubled by recurring yeast infections? Yeast Infection No More is a clinically proven five-step system for curing candida holistically. Get rid of your yeast infection once and for all!

Breast Cancer Risk Rises With HRT Use

by The Diva

The results of the second part of the Women’s Health Initiative (WIH), a federal study on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and breast cancer, were released December 13, 2008 at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium. The new findings show that a much higher risk of breast cancer is one of several hormone replacement therapy side effects.

HRT Side Effects

The results of this new study indicate that the risks of HRT far outweigh the benefits for most women. HRT includes estrogen and progestin pills that doctors thought would prevent heart disease, bone loss, and many other problems women face after menopause.

The WIH had two parts. The first study included over 16,000 women who were matched for weight, age, and other health factors. These women were randomly assigned to a group that took estrogen and progestin pills, or or to one that took a placebo.

The researchers found much higher risks of heart problems and breast cancer in women using female hormone replacement therapy. In fact, the risk of breast cancer increased by 26% among women using HRT, espcially for those women who used HRT for five years or more. This finding caused an early end to the first part of the WIH in 2002.

Researchers still had questions, though. Did women who started on HRT when they first entered menopause in their 50’s, and who used HRT for shorter periods of time, still face higher risks of breast cancer and heart disease? Most of the women in the first study were in their 60s and well past menopause.

In the new study, researchers followed over 15,000 women who met the new criteria through July 2005. The researchers kept track of breast cancer cases as they occurred over time.

The results? The risk of breast cancer increased when women started HRT, hit a high point when the study ended, and then fell as nearly all the women stopped taking estrogen and progestin pills. Results at the high point showed that the breast cancer risk for HRT users was twice that of the others.

Hormone Replacement Therapy And Safety?

Conventional medical practioners are quick to reassure their patients that most women won’t get breast cancer if they use HRT for a short time. They say that the increased cancer risk from using HRT for two years amounts to only a few extra cases of breast cancer per year for every 1000 women using estrogen and progestin pills.

Of course, there’s no way to tell ahead of time who the lucky ladies will be. Plus the risk of breast cancer does go up the longer a woman uses HRT.

Natural Treatment For Menopause

Women have always gone through menopause. This is nothing new. It’s a normal part of every woman’s life. Menopause is not an illness and shouldn’t be treated like one.

For centuries women have used herbal remedies for menopause. These natural remedies have few, if any, side effects.

Women need to learn more about the increased risk of breast cancer linked to hormone replacement therapy. Herbal treatments for menopause are readily available and quite inexpensive. It may be possible to find relief from common menopause symptoms without increasing your risk of breast cancer.

What To Expect After Menopause

by The Diva

Many women going through menopause secretly hope that their uncomfortable symptoms will end when their menopause officially does, but unfortunately that isn’t necessarily the case. Even if those years of dealing with heat flashes and mood swings have finally finished, you may still have some unwanted post menopause symptoms to deal with.

The close of menopause is the end of ovulation and menstruation, and it usually finishes about 8 to ten years of the onset of symptoms. Nonetheless,Even so, you can still continue to have post menopause bleeding up to 6 months or so afterwards. Periods after menopause aren’t common, and there’s an increased likelihood you’ll experience them if you are on hormone therapy or if you are significantly overweight. If you do experience bleeding after menopause, make sure you have a check-up with your doctor because it may be a symptom of a serious disease such as endometrial cancer.

Health Issues To Watch For

Post menopause bleeding is not the only symptom to watch out for. Other bothersome post-menopause symptoms is vaginal itching and dryness, which is both irritating and potentially embarrassing.  However, the most distressing of all possible symptoms is stress incontinence, which is the involuntary trickling of urine because there is extra stress on your bladder, caused by a weakness in the pelvic floor muscles.

Other post menopause symptoms include the increased likelihood of conditions such as hypertension and osteoporosis. You may also start to notice more lines and wrinkles on your face. Post menopause symptoms are not fun, but they are something that every woman has to deal with at some point. Luckily medications are available to mitigate many of the symptoms you may experience. This can include face creams, lubricants, prescription medications and panty liners which can improve the experience of life after menopause.

It’s good to remember that not all women experience post menopause symptoms. And of those that do, most are not serious. As well as the many regular medications that can help with them, there is a great selection of vitamins and supplements that can be surprisingly powerful.
