Time to hit the bike trails

by The Diva

Now that September has arrived it’s really cooled off dramatically! I can’t believe how cool it’s getting at night. We actually turned our furnace on for the first time this season this evening. It was just too cool in our house.

One thing I do like about the cooler weather is that it’s nice to get out and either take long walks or go for bike rides. Working out or being active is important year round, but I find it much easier in the spring and fall when the temperature outside is much more moderate to cool. I just get too hot in the summer if I really exert myself and well, sometimes here in the winter it’s just too cold to go outside for a long time.

Perhaps tomorrow if the weather is nice we’ll get out the thule bike rack and load up the bikes and go to a bike trail for a nice long ride.

Do you enjoy doing outdoor activities like biking, walking and running year round, or are you like me and prefer to do some of those activities when the weather is slightly cooler like during the Spring and Fall?

I wish this migraine would go away

by The Diva

My head is aching this week! I don’t know if it’s the weather or just me. It’s probably me since I suffer from some pretty severe migraines, but they’ve been better in the last few months – until now I suppose.

In the last 24 hours my head has been aching so bad I can barely do anything. Other than going out to the doctor for a scheduled appointment all I’ve been able to do is rest on the couch with an icepack on my head. I have shooting pains in the back of my head and sometimes I have visual disturbances – migraine auras that are something like the code picked up by a barcode scanner. All I want is for this migraine to disappear.

Perhaps if a thunderstorm starts up my migraine will go away once the storm passes?

Waiting to feel better …

Oh and speaking of storms .. when I am feeling better I’ll tell you about the tree that fell on my house a week and a half ago!

The start of another Staycation

by The Diva

My husband has next week off work. No he’s not on holiday. Unfortunately he’s on temporary lay off from work, but you know what, we’re going to treat it like a holiday. We’re just not going to spend much money – because we don’t have any to spend!

I realized the other day that we haven’t brought our dog to the dog beach yet this year. We normally bring her several times each summer. It’s very odd that we haven’t brought her to Cherry beach yet. So … unless the weather is bad on Monday I think we’re going to go to the beach. Chris and I can camp out on the sand and Midnight can frolic in the water like she loves to do.

Maybe later in the week we’ll get the hitch bike racks on the car and take our bikes to a park with some great bike trails and go for a really good bike ride. If my knee can handle it of course.

I guess you’d call this a staycation. Oh and the Beaches Jazz Festival is on right now, with the Beaches Street Jazzfestival being on next week when my husband is off … so well definitely go and do that. We can even bring the dog to that one if we want. So this is ok. It’s great that we live in a city with so much to do!

I can’t believe I have Arthritis in my knee

by The Diva

In the last year my knee started hurting more and more so when I saw my family doctor in March I told her about it again and she finally decided to send me for some tests.

I’ve always had problems with my knees. Ever since I was a kid. You see my legs just aren’t built right. My tibia and fibia are off to the outer sides. Yes I could explain this better, but without adding diagrams that will have to do. Lets just say that the bones just aren’t quite in the right place and that means that my kneecaps are everything else isn’t quite in the right place either so that means that I’ve had a lot of cartlige rubbing on bone for most of my life.

Needless to say, once my doctor finally sent me for tests ie an MRI of each knee, the test results came back that I had Arthritis in my right knee – the knee that had been aching so bad it felt like a tooth ache and had been giving out on me all winter. I’m sure that my left knee also has arthritis it just couldn’t be seen yet, but within a year or so there will probably be enough damage that it will be diagnosable too.

Now that summer is here my knees aren’t hurting quite as bad as they were in the winter, but I’m getting ready for next winter. I’m ordering a don joy knee brace so that when my knee is bad I can use the brace. It will give it more stabilization and I’m sure my knee will feel a little bit better in the brace as well. It’s got to help.

Certainly with the brace on I’ll feel a more confidant on the stairs. I think my right knee gave out on the stairs at least 20 times this past winter. That’s scary!

I’m also waiting for an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon. Oh I don’t expect that I’ll be having knee surgery anytime in the near future. My knee isn’t bad enough yet, but I need to see a specialist to find out what kind of arthritis I have.

Me and my growling dog

by The Diva

I’m all alone at home this weekend. Well, not totally alone, my Labrador Retriever is here with me to keep me company so I guess that’s a good thing.

My husband went to his parents house in Brantford on Friday to help his dad get a few things done around the house. They were supposed to get the eaves troughs cleaned out and re-parge an area of the foundation that was cracked but it’s been raining a little bit here and there so I don’t think they got a lot of outdoor work done. I could be wrong though.

My husband’s been pretty good about checking in while he’s been away from home. He’s been calling and filling me in on a little bit of what he’s been doing. I guess his sister showed up at his parents house today and was helping his mom vacuum and somehow between his mom and his sister they managed to suck a sock up into the vacuum tube or something so my husband spent about two hours trying to unblock the tube to no avail.

I guess while he was trying to work on the vacuum he and his sister were talking. His sister and her husband have two RV trailers up North on a property but they want to get another one so more family members can go up for visits so now they’re applying for rv loans so that they can make it happen. Personally I think two RVs are enough.

Hopefully Midnight, my dog, and I get through tonight ok. Something is setting her off. She’s lying on the couch with me, but she’s growling every two or three minutes. That’s really not like her, but she’s been doing that for the last hour or so, so she must be smelling something outside or maybe since my husband isn’t her maybe she’s feeling more protective. I don’t know, but the growling is setting me on edge.
