Everything is on sale at this time of year isn’t it?

by The Diva

I don’t know about you, but half the emails I’m getting are for post holiday sales. Always at this time of year the stores have huge sales – everything is 50% or more off or stores are having liquidation sales and everything must go. Am I right?

Are you getting all those emails too? Or flyers in your door?

Now I don’t have much money these days to take advantage of the sales, but I’m keep an eye on them anyway. I figure that I might see something that someone else might be interested in and I was right. I saw an ad for kelty tents at RockyMountainTrail.com for really good prices and I sent the ad to my nephew because I know he’s been looking into getting some camping gear. I don’t know if he’ll take advantage of the sale or not, but at least he knows about a great sale now.

Do you take advantage of some of the great sales at this time of year too?

I deserve a treat or two – time to shop

by The Diva

I was just saying on my other blog that I’m due to treat myself to some new clothes. I don’t know why, but it seems that I always get the urge to add to my wardrobe at this time of year for some reason.

Anyway .. it’s been exactly a year since I quit smoking so that calls for a celebration and what better way to treat myself than to use some buckle coupons to buy some new clothes? Yep .. save some money and get some cool stuff. Uh huh … and if I don’t find anything for me at that store I can always use the coupons on something for one of my nieces I suppose.

So what do you think? Doesn’t that sound like a good enough reason to treat myself?

Thinking of selling my gold jewelery

by The Diva

You know, ever since the price of gold really started to climb last year I’ve been keeping an eye on it and wishing that back when I used to be a jeweler that I’d stored away a few gold bars for safe keeping. I’d be sitting pretty right now, wouldn’t I?

Woulda, coulda, shoulda as the saying goes.

Actually, ever since I’ve been out of the jewelery trade I barely ever wear my jewelery. Perhaps I should just go through my jewelery collection and then take it to some old jewelery friends and get it melted down and sell it.

Have you thought about selling your gold jewelery or melting down your gold now that the price of gold has gone up so high? And no I’m not talking about sending your gold off to those places that advertise on TV … those places sound like scams to me!

My husband needs to get a new job

by The Diva

I think it’s about time for my husband to start looking for a new job. I was just saying in my last post that my husband will be going through a two week temporary lay off at work at the end of December. Doesn’t that suck?

This will be his fourth temporary layoff at the hospital in just over a year. I’m right aren’t I – it’s time to look for a new job. Trouble is … he loves his job … plus, as most of you probably know, the economy isn’t that great so there isn’t a lot of great jobs out there. I think right now my husband would be willing to take a part time sales job over the Christmas season would be nice.

There’s just been so many budget cuts at the hospital – that’s why they keep doing these temporary lay offs. I don’t know how they expect to keep employees though!

One of our neighbors works for our city bus company – the TTC and he keeps telling my husband about various job openings, so my husband is going to put in his resume with the TTC and hopefully he’ll get called in for an interview. Certainly if my husband could get a better job we’d be in a lot better shape financially.

Time to cut down on expenses

by The Diva

I’m scrambling to see where my husband and I can save money once again. My husband came home from work on Friday with the lovely news that he was going to be “temporarily” laid off work for the last two weeks of December.

That means he’ll have been laid off for a total of 6 weeks since last December.

Since I’m home on unpaid medical leave we really depend on my husbands income. We pretty much live pay check to pay check … so each time he goes through one of these one or two week lay offs it takes us about a month to recover, sometimes longer.

So … now I’m trying to find ways to save money on our bills and other expenses. I think we’re going to cut down to the bare minimum. Perhaps I’ll be searching around for insurance quotes again to see if we can cut down on what we’re paying for our house and car insurance too since even that went up this year.
