Time to get out the Christmas Decorations?

by The Diva

We got our first real snow fall here in Toronto this week. I guess we have a few inches of snow on the ground and we expect more to come before the week is over. I guess we’re lucky compared to some areas near us who happened to get several feet of snow!

I think the snow actually made me have a bit of the Christmas spirit earlier today. We haven’t decorated the house for Christmas for about 6 years, but earlier today I seriously thought about pulling out our Christmas tree, Christmas decorations, the garland, lights, and of course our Christmas wreath.

Who knows .. maybe this weekend I’ll dig out all of our decorations and start putting some of them up. It’s been years since we’ve decorated so it would be a big change, but a nice one if we do it.

A well meaning relative

by The Diva

I received a package from my husbands well meaning aunt earlier this week.

She’s really into organic products. There’s nothing wrong with that … frankly I’m into organics as well … it’s just she’s really into the stuff. She’ll only eat wheat germ for a week as part of some special diet and exclude everything else.

She knows I have crohn’s disease so this care package had some special supplements in it like Devils claw and pamphlets with information about things like a colon cleanse that really works.

Some of the things she sends me is helpful, but I’m not interested in a lot of the things she sends so she’s wasting her money.

Do you have any friends or relatives that buy things for you that you don’t need or want but you just don’t know how to tell them to stop? My husbands aunt is such a nice person I’m sure it’d break her heart if I told her I didn’t want the things she sends me.

How to get the smell of cigarettes and cigars out of the house?

by The Diva

It looks like we’re going to be having house guests again in about a month. My husbands brother is going to be coming for a visit from Chicago. Just for the weekend … but it will feel like a week. LOL

When my husband and his brother get together it gets really loud and smelly in here! My brother in law smokes roll your own cigarette and occasionally a cigar … I think he smokes tatuaje cigars but whatever they are, along with the cigarettes … that’s all my house smells of for a week or so after he’s left.

My husband and I smoke as well, but Canadian cigarettes don’t smell quite as much as American ones do. Oh don’t get me wrong I know they smell, but there’s a distinct smell to American cigarettes and cigars.

My brother in law knows he’s not supposed to smoke his cigars or cigarettes in the house. He can smoke our cigarettes … but not his. Still .. after a few drinks and when my husband and him get going out comes those stinky things and I’m stuck with the smell. Grrrr

So how do you get the scent of cigars and cigarettes out of a home? I’d love some good ideas. I put out little dishes with diluted white vinegar and that helps a bit, but not enough. Suggestions?

More house guests? Again? Ahhhhh!

by The Diva

A simple question – do you love it or do you hate it when the in-laws call at the last minute and say they are coming for a visit? Oh and by visit I mean, they plan to come for the day but end up staying overnight.

Why am I asking? Well … it seems that my in-laws are coming for visits more and more frequently and because they’re older they get tired and don’t always (read almost never) feel up to driving the hour and a half home again come evening so they become weekend guests.

I guess if I had more notice I might not mind so much, but often they call only the day of or the evening before their visit. So if the house isn’t clean or if I’m not feeling all that well I don’t have much time to prepare.

I just found that my in-laws are coming for a visit tomorrow. They’re packing in a full day of shopping, visiting two other relatives and then getting together with my husband and I so unless they’re full of energy tomorrow I can almost guarantee that they’ll end up staying overnight. Oh and when they come for a visit it’s not just my mother in law and father in law, it’s my husbands aunt as well … so both of our spare bedrooms get used and they take over the house, the fridge (with their shopping items) and move our things around … things that we use daily or even hourly! Grrrr

I guess that if they didn’t totally take over my home and basically turn my life upside down I wouldn’t mind so much, but that’s just not the case!

Oh and my brother was just visiting from Vancouver for the last week. He only left yesterday … and even though he’s the best house guest anyone could ask for .. I’m certainly not looking forward to having more house guests again so soon! I’d rather immerse myself in a search for good rates on term life insurance or the best cat litter than have another house guest right now. LOL

So back to my question – do you love it or hate when the in-laws come for a visit – especially a very short notice or no notice visit? I suspect that after reading this you’ll be able to guess what my answer is!

Great Ways to Save A Marriage And Live A Happy Married Life

by The Diva

How To Stop My Divorce

In this post I’m going to share 5 tips to save a marriage. Marriage is one of the happiest and memorable times in our lives. It is a union of not only two individuals, but also of two different upbringings or cultures. After a wonderful start of married life, there might be a possibility or beginning of some conflicts. These conflicts may be due to some misunderstandings, ego or any other personal problems. Sometimes the bitterness in relationships crosses the tolerance level that the couples think of getting separated.

However, a divorce affects the personal and social lives of both partners. You will be surprised to know that your marriage problems can be fixed. Here are 5 great ways to save a marriage that can be effectively implemented in your married life.

The first step to resolve the marriage problems is to agree that these problems exist. You should be honest with yourself, you should be able to identify the differences in your relationships and try to improve them. If you try to go away from the problems, they will never be solved. Accept the situation as it is and be prepared for the challenges that you may come across.

Keep in mind that you can’t fight a problem that you can’t see. This philosophy is definitely true in case of marriages. If you notice that your husband has changed the way of interaction, then find out why. The best solution is to start the conversation with your spouse and give him several chances to ‘open up’. Don’t forget to keep your ears and mind open for the subtle hints from his conversation.

Saving a marriage is not merely solving the problems. Reigniting your love for each other is one of the effective 5 tips to save a marriage. You could also express your passion for your partner with special dates or surprises. Remember the most romantic times you spent together and simply recreate them with an addition of a unique approach.

Give some time for each other to share the feelings. The purpose is to grab the attention of your partner and make your relationships healthy with natural attraction. If you are successful in bringing back the passion for each other, then other problems can be immediately solved.

There may be a lot of obstacles when you are trying to fix the relationships. It might be difficult for you to talk to your husband or you may be facing outside pressures from the family which may prevent you to focus on your goals. Even after facing these barriers, you should be persistent on your goals. If one approach fails, you can try another approach that may work. You should be able to handle these conflicts safely.

One of the most important steps among 5 tips to save a marriage is to seek the right advice from your friends and family. You should try to get an expert advice from counseling sessions or books before you take any major decisions. A wise advice can save a marriage, while bad advice may ruin it.

Knowing about 5 ways to save a marriage, you would be able to resolve the problems if any in your marriage and live a happy married life.
