You can tell it’s spring around here

by The Diva

It’s that time of year again when people start working on their houses. Whether inside or outside, it seems spring is the time to either renovate or repair the house or yard or add something new.

I’ve noticed a lot of changes in my neighborhood as I walk around with my dog. Some houses are getting painted or having a new fence put in. Others are having some landscaping done. Still others must be having either some home repairs done or some renovations because I can hear hammering or sawing as I walk by or I see those big bins in their driveway for reno materials.

One house that I walk by regularly just got a new metal garage put up and it’s kind of cool looking. It has a sign on it that says – metal residential buildings and I guess they’re the makers of the building. No idea how much that would cost but it’s going to last for a long time I think.

Anyway you can definitely tell it’s Spring around here, there’s lots of work getting done! I’ve been working on my garden and getting some work done in the house – with more to come … How about you?

Parking problems on our street

by The Diva

There’s a lot of cars parking on our street lately. I think it’s because so many people are renting either their homes or rooms in their homes. Naturally each renter seems to have a car so each house has multiple cars and the street has become overcrowded with parked cars.

Our street, or actually the street across from us is also one of the only ones in the area that people can park in without having to have a permit so people that don’t live on the block park here regularly too. One of the people that doesn’t belong on the street, who tends to park and right in front of my house is a van that has a logo for hayward pool heater parts on it. I’ve only been seeing it in the last month or so, but it’s been here regularly. Last fall it was a deck company.

Does your street get a lot of parking on it too? Does it bother you? I don’t mind as long a I can find parking. Every second month we have our shared driveway and then on the odd months we park on the street, but usually we’re ok parking wise.

Crazy weather – feels like summer

by The Diva

It was like summer here in Toronto this week. Everyone in my neighborhood was out walking around in shorts and light tops, riding bikes, skate boarding, roller skating, jogging … you’d never know that it was Winter/ Spring!

The news was even crazier. The whole country was warmer than usual this past week, but I think overall Toronto was the warmest so the news kept showing people basking in the sun on the beach dressed in bathing suits and so on. I remember seeing them interview one girl who looked like she’d just been playing volleyball on the beach but she had all these steel bracelets on her wrists so her interview was distracting.

March isn’t over so I suppose we could still get a snow storm, but somehow I doubt it will happen. It feels like summer has already arrived even though Spring is really the season that only just arrived two days ago.

Noisy neighbors kid

by The Diva

My neighbors kid is making noise again. I swear I’ve barely slept since Febuary! Honest. I think that’s when the woman next store took her toddler out of day care and started working at home and of course that’s when all the noise began.

The kid is obviously going through the terrible two’s and oh how terrible they are and to make matters worse the parents have told us that they don’t like to say no to her because it makes her reaction worse. Duh … well times a kid has to learn what no means. So since February she’s been screaming at 6 am, thumping her feet at all times of day, slamming doors and just making a ton of noise and to top every thing off her parents didn’t seems to realize that we, in the adjoining house next door, could hear all the noise right through the walls.

It’s awful. We’ve talked to the neighbors a few times about the noise and for a while things got better. Now I think that the noise got better because they were putting in a fence and they wanted us to go along with it and now that the fence is in they don’t care any more so they’re letting their daughter run wild again. Sigh … so much for my sleep. I think I’m going to buy a tent and maybe some Sierra Designs Sleeping Bags and then I’m going to camp out in my backyard. Maybe they’ll see the tent and get the idea and maybe I’ll get a better sleep.
