Even boys care about their skin

by The Diva

A while back I wrote about how my nephew has been having a lot of trouble with acne.

He’s a teenager and he plays hockey … maybe every day. He has NHL dreams and he’s good enough that they might just come true. However all that sweating doesn’t seem to be doing his skin any good .. or it wasn’t a few months ago.

Since I’m a nurse he decided to ask me about what he could do to clear up his skin and I gave him some advice and suggested an acne treatment. He started following some of my suggestions and I’m pleased to say that his skin has really cleared up.

He still has a little bit of acne, but nothing like he used to have. He’s such a handsome boy. I’m so glad that I was able to help him. He’s also more confident now – or seems to be – now that his skin looks better. I think his acne was really getting him down and making him self conscious.

Fair skin and sunny days

by The Diva

I was just saying on my other blog that I have a real problem with freckles in the summer. My skin is fair and when the sun starts to get stronger in late spring I suddenly find myself covered in freckles.

I never used to freckle … nope I’d just burn to a crisp, even if I was wearing sunscreen … but lately I don’t seem to burn, I just freckle and then freckle some more. LOL

Anyway I was just reading a prevera review and I discovered that not only might this cream help me prevent wrinkles but it might help with my freckle situation too. I’ll have to look into it a little more to find out if it really works but it looks promising.

Are you fair skinned too? How do you protect your skin and keep it looking great?

Maybe I should buy a parasol?

A new look

by The Diva

I finally bit the bullet and got some new glasses.

I’d been wearing the same pair for about five years and I’d noticed that my glasses were getting dirty so much easier than they used to (perhaps the coating was wearing down?) and I thought my vision might have changed a bit.

So a couple of weeks ago I made an appointment with an optometrist to get my eyes checked and then, armed with a new, and only slightly changed, prescription I started the search for new eyewear.

I think I went to about four different stores that sold eye glasses and contacts. I’m certain I tried on at least 100 pairs of glasses before I finally found some I liked. Three of the stores seemed to mainly carry tiny oblong or rectangular lenses. I guess that’s in these days, but they don’t suit everyone’s face – certainly not mine!

The final store that I went in to had a huge selection of frames and the man that started helping me within minutes of walking in really new what he was talking about. I told him what I was looking for – semi rimless or rimless glasses and NOT rectangular and within seconds he was holding a pair that suited me perfectly.

Oh and get this … we got talking and I found out that his wife used to be in the Jewelry trade, just like me, and along with designing jewelry she also sold wholesale diamonds. I think I knew her back when I was in the business.

Anyway, I ended up getting a pair of Transition lenses and my second pair of glasses just have normal lenses.

I’ve only had my new glasses since Saturday and I’m still getting used to them, but I think it’s going to take a while to get used to the Transitions. They are pretty good outdoors, well unless I’m looking directly into the sun or a very bright spot, then they aren’t quite dark enough. however they are a little slow to change back to clear when I go inside and when they are clear I can see reflections or prisms on the outside edges of the lenses. The guy at the optical store said that would stop bothering me … but I don’t know.

I’m glad I got two pair of glasses. I think I’ll try to just use the transition ones when I’m going outside and use the normal pair when I’m staying home or working on the computer.

Have you tried the new Transition lenses? What are your thoughts on them?

Starting to ban ip addresses for spammers

by The Diva

I was just mentioning in my last post that I’ve been getting a lot of comment spam lately.

Have you found that you’re getting more comment spam lately? Has it really increased or is it just my sites that are getting a lot more than usual?

I’m getting hit on by spammers from Croatia, Russia, Turkey and India. Oh sure there are spammers from other countries too, but the four countries above are hitting my sites the hardest and they don’t just leave one comment … no they have to leace ten or twelve at a time, all saying “nice site” or something about diet pill reviews.

when will it end!

I’ve actually taken to blocking ip addresses or whole domains from many of my sites. I know that will make it harder for legitimate visitors to leave a comment, but if it weren’t for those people ruining things for the rest I wouldn’t have to do that.

How do you handle comment spam?

Out come the Vultures

by The Diva

The last time Google did a Page Rank update (the beginning of April I believe) several of my blogs and websites went up in Rank .. not this one though I’m afraid.

Anyway … the increase in pagerank seems to have brought all the “vultures” out of the wood work. In the last week or two I’ve received several requests on most of my blogs for private sales ranging from links for things like the top rated diet pills to home decor, to requests for special blog posts and people offering their win articles for my blogs.

I’ve also been getting a lot more comment spam on my sites too – people looking for free links on websites with decent page rank … that game doesn’t work very well with me though as I move anything I think is from someone spamming my sites right into the Akismet spam box.

It’s always nice to know that companies and marketers think that your website is worth advertising on but there are so many scammers out there it can be hard to sift through all the offers and requests.

I used to accept a lot of private advertising offers but I’ve pretty much stopped that in recent months. It’s a lot of trouble and until I find some system that makes it easier to manage direct sales on my many many websites I think I’ll hold off for a while.

Do you accept private advertising on your site? How do you manage things? How do you take payment?
