A sign that I’m getting older?

by The Diva

I hate getting older!

Earlier today I was taking a good look at my face. Why, I don’t know … but either way I was standing close to the mirror and taking a good look at my skin and low and behold I think I found an age spot on my left cheek.

Can you even get age spots on your face? Ahhhhh!

Whatever it is, it’s quite faint … maybe it’s a faded freckle? I have fair skin and I tend to freckle in the summer sun, but that’s mostly on my arms and shoulders. Yeah … maybe it’s a freckle. LOL Well whatever it is, now that I know it’s there I guess I’ll keep an eye on it over the next few weeks and see if it gets bigger or darker and then decide what to do about it.

Don’t you hate getting older? Not that I’m that old, but I guess my body is telling me that I’m starting to age a bit.

A few more pounds to lose before summer

by The Diva

I was just saying on my other blog now that spring is here I’ll bet that more than a few of you are about to start diets or a new work out routine in order to get in shape for summer.

I am too. I have a few extra pounds on me and I’d love to get rid of them. Soon! Actually I’ve been losing weight all year … it might have helped that I’ve been awfully sick with two colds and pneumonia this year, not that I’d recommend getting sick in order to start losing abdominal fat or anything.

I’m trying to be more active. Good thing the weather here’s been cooperating! We’ve had spring like weather here in Toronto for more than month and my garden is already about two weeks to a month ahead of itself. We actually spent some time this past weekend cleaning leaves out of the garden … I can imagine that I’ll be digging in it and planting in another week or two if this weather keeps up … and of course that all fits into my plan of being more active. I’ll be taking longer walks too!

What are you doing to lose weight … eating healthy? Dieting? Jogging?

Spring is definitely here!

by The Diva

Spring is here! Actually I think Spring hit Toronto about two weeks early! It’s cool today, but for most of the last two weeks we were getting quite nice temperatures, like late spring like temps!

Just looking outside in my garden I’ve been seeing signs of spring for weeks. Most of my 60 or so rose plants have branches that are not only starting to green up but that are developing leave buds as are many of the shrubs, bushes and trees in my immediate area. The grass is starting to green as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if we have to cut our lawn in early April rather than the first lawn cutting being sometime in May as it usually is.

Just a few days ago I noticed that the chives were coming up in my garden as well as what I think might be iris and maybe even hyacinth leaves. Some of my Crocuses were blooming early this week too … a full week and a half to two weeks earlier than usual.

One other more human side of spring that I’ve noted is the arrival of communion invitations in the mail! LOL Yep, we have a nephew who’s getting ready for his first communion in May and we’ve already received an invitation. I’m sure they’ll be a few more similar invitations in the next month or so.

Have you been noticing signs of Spring in your area too?

Remembering to use cloth bags when we shop

by The Diva

Last year all of the grocery stores here in Ontario and I believe across Canada as a whole started charging 5 cents for plastic grocery bags. This of course was a way to remind people that plastic bags aren’t good for the environment and that we should be bringing our reusuable bags to the store every time we come.

This didn’t bother us all that much as we’d been using cloth reusuable bags for years. The only time we use plastic bags these days is when we forget to bring our bags from our home. The reason this happens is because when we bring our groceries home and unpack it we place the cloth bags on our enclosed front porch and whichever of us goes to the car next is to put them in the trunk … well that doesn’t always happen! Which is of course the reason why we sometimes show up at the grocery store and need to buy plastic bags … or carry our items out in our hands. LOL

I think I might buy a few more custom tote bags so we’ll always have some in the car. I’d like to find some large, yet really thin ones that I could fold up and put in my purse too. Then we’d never ever need to buy a plastic bag at any store ever again.

Do you use clothe bags when you go shopping? If you don’t – Why not?

More house guests? Again? Ahhhhh!

by The Diva

A simple question – do you love it or do you hate it when the in-laws call at the last minute and say they are coming for a visit? Oh and by visit I mean, they plan to come for the day but end up staying overnight.

Why am I asking? Well … it seems that my in-laws are coming for visits more and more frequently and because they’re older they get tired and don’t always (read almost never) feel up to driving the hour and a half home again come evening so they become weekend guests.

I guess if I had more notice I might not mind so much, but often they call only the day of or the evening before their visit. So if the house isn’t clean or if I’m not feeling all that well I don’t have much time to prepare.

I just found that my in-laws are coming for a visit tomorrow. They’re packing in a full day of shopping, visiting two other relatives and then getting together with my husband and I so unless they’re full of energy tomorrow I can almost guarantee that they’ll end up staying overnight. Oh and when they come for a visit it’s not just my mother in law and father in law, it’s my husbands aunt as well … so both of our spare bedrooms get used and they take over the house, the fridge (with their shopping items) and move our things around … things that we use daily or even hourly! Grrrr

I guess that if they didn’t totally take over my home and basically turn my life upside down I wouldn’t mind so much, but that’s just not the case!

Oh and my brother was just visiting from Vancouver for the last week. He only left yesterday … and even though he’s the best house guest anyone could ask for .. I’m certainly not looking forward to having more house guests again so soon! I’d rather immerse myself in a search for good rates on term life insurance or the best cat litter than have another house guest right now. LOL

So back to my question – do you love it or hate when the in-laws come for a visit – especially a very short notice or no notice visit? I suspect that after reading this you’ll be able to guess what my answer is!
