Mac or PC Notebook?

by The Diva

I think that before this month is over I’ll be the proud new owner of either a PC or Mac Notebook.

My current notebook is getting slow and well … old. I’ve been watching all the deals and I think it’s time to either replace this laptop or at least get another one to use along side this one.

I’ve always wanted a Mac. I do a lot of graphic work and I know that macs are the best for graphic artists … so I’m leaning that way. I just need to make sure I get one with enough macbook memory in it for all the work I do!

On the other hand … I’ve been hearing good things about Windows 7 so a new computer with the new operating system might be nice to try out too. Of course I could always have my current notebook and computer updated.

If you were thinking of getting a new laptop would you buy a Mac or a PC?

A call that wasn’t what I thought it would be

by The Diva

We got a call last week, early in the morning from our former neighbors son. The first thing to run through my mind when I saw who was calling was that our former elderly neighbor had died and they were calling us to tell us that they were in the midst of funeral planning.

I was wrong. It was about the people that they’re renting our former neighbors house too … yeah those awful scum of the earth people next door to us! They haven’t been paying their rent for months and I guess our former neighbors family finally won their case and are allowed to evict them. Yeah!!! So we’re just sitting tight hoping that those awful people will be gone soon.

I’m certainly glad that our former neighbor is still alive. She’s had about three strokes in the last two years though and she must be about 89 years old though … so I have a feeling that she won’t be around for much longer.

Can’t go back to school full time – try an online degree

by The Diva

So many companies have either closed down or laid off employees in this poor economy that it’s no wonder that more people have been taking courses and returning to school in order to either better their current education or start a new career.

Unfotunately it’s quite difficult to go back to school if you have children and or if you still need to have some kind of income to pay the bills while you improve your education at college. Thankfully there’s a new way to gain an online degree. I’m talking about Western Governors University.

WGU is an online University that offers accelerated courses and their programs are accredited. It is also quite a respected University serving over 14,000 students.

Western Governors University offers a wide range of programs. You could look into getting a masters degree online in a number of professions such as Business Management, Humane Resources Management, Marketing Management, Information Technology Management or Accounting just to name a few.

WGU also offers courses at their online Teachers College, and in Information Technology and in the health care field.

If you’ve been laid off work and have been thinking of either changing your career or improving your education so that you will be sought after in your field do take a moment to have a look at WGU.

Any suggestions for hooking up our Wii to our new thin plasma TV?

by The Diva

We got a new plasma TV last weekend and after spending a few hours hooking up our DVD player, DVD recorder, cable box PVR, cd player and home theater we found that we were at a loss as to how to hook up our Wii to the new TV.

Our TV only has one component/composite hookup on the back! My husband somehow piggy backed the DVD player and DVD recorder and hooked them up to the home theater system and then the home theater system has component plugs that go to the TV.

But how are we going to hook up the Wii? We tried plugging it into a few of the open spaces in the back of the home theater system and in a few cases we either got a picture or the Wii sound and once both – but the picture quality was horrendous.

Right now the only way that I can think of to use our Wii is to unhook the current component cables that are in the back of the TV (as Samsung PN50B850) whenever I want to use the Wii. That’s going to suck! Plus if I don’t start working out with my Wii again I might have to start looking for fat loss supplements. LOL

Anyone have any ideas as to how we can hook up our Wii to our mostly HDMI one Component to the back of our Home theater system successfully?

Trying to decide if we should hook up an iPod to our home theater system

by The Diva

My husband and I decided to buy a new TV … oh about three weeks ago. Since that time we’ve been waiting for our new Plasma to come into the store. Sad that you have to wait so long for a new TV these days isn’t it?

We bought a new TV because our 2004 DLP TV seems to be dying. We think there might be something wrong with the DMD board as the picture just freezes and goes black and white every now and then (about once a week). We know our DLP’s days are numbered!

We decided to replace the DLP rather than repair it because in the 6 years that we’ve owned it we’ve had to replace the light bulbs two or three times, had to replace the color wheel – at a total cost for all of these items of about one thousand dollars! Fixing the DMD board would cost approximate 800 to 1000 dollars … we just can’t see pouring more money into this TV. So we’ll put it in the basement and use it occasionally until it finally dies.

So … while we’re waiting for our new TV to come in (the store says it will be in on Friday!) we bought and hooked up a new home theater system. Lets just say that hooking up the new home theater system to the DLP wasn’t a piece of cake! It took hours and hours! Tested our marriage a bit too. LOL

Anyway …now the system is working and when we get the new TV we should only have to move a few wires (components) from one TV to the other and hopefully everything will work just fine.

One nice thing about the new home theater receiver is that we can hook up a special iPod dock to it and play music from the iPod through the receiver. We do have a 200 disk carousel CD player hooked up to the receiver but it’s old and I’m sure we’d get better sound if we used an iPod … or rather my husband is sure of that.

Of course … we don’t have an iPod (or the accessory docking station) so I spent a little bit of time earlier today looking at the various versions of ipods. I think if we’re going to buy one I’d get a classic iPod that has 160 GB of storage. We have a LOT of music on the computer and on CD’s – enough that we’d probably come close to filling up a classic iPod.

So before we go out and spend another $350 to $400 getting an iPod and the special docking station that works with our Yamaha receiver let me ask you a question – Have any of you run your iPod through your Home theater system? If you have, how is the sound?

The reason I’m asking is, if it’s not going to make a huge sound difference we might as well keep using our 200 disk CD carousel until it dies on us too. However, if there’s a major sound improvement (like full true 5.1 sound) we might go ahead and splurge to make our sound system complete.
