A lazy weekend

by The Diva

We’re just having a lazy weekend. We’ve been so busy over the last couple of weeks- traveling and having visitors stay over … it’s nice to try and have a quite weekend.

I say try … because it didn’t exactly work out that way. My husband wanted his cousin (who’s a manager at a Mercedes dealership) to check out our car so earlier this afternoon we took a drive out to his house and let him take the car out for a drive on the highway. Oh and we also took a trip to Costco while we were at it.

Our car got a passing grade from my husbands cousin. It handles well and he couldn’t find any problems with it. Good news!

When we first arrived at Costco I thought it was a mistake going there on a Saturday … we had to line up with our cart just to get in! I thought about looking for the nearest exit signs once I got in there it was so crowded! However, once we started shopping (I headed to the pharmacy first while they went to get some food) it went fast and when we were finished there was hardly anyone in line at the cash registers so I think we were in and out of Costco in half an hour. It might have been our fastest visit yet!

So far we have no plans for tomorrow and I like it that way. I think I’m going to sleep in and then maybe later in the day we’ll watch some movies. Like I said – it’s a lazy weekend!

What are you up to this weekend?

Man do I ever need new clothes

by The Diva

I need to go on a shopping spree! Yes I do!

Now considering that I actually hate shopping (yes I’m one of those rare females that doesn’t live in a store) the fact that I’m admitting that I need to go on shopping spree is a big deal. LOL

I guess I just don’t really like the mall or department store experience all that much. Plus, I’m not a big fan of trying on clothes and being disappointed when something that looked so good on the hanger doesn’t look fantastic when I put it on.

So … maybe I’ll do some online shopping. I found a place that sells rocawear sneakers and several other great brands of clothes and the prices are quite decent. I think I could go on a shopping spree just at this one online site.

Do you shop online? Are you usually happy with the items you buy online?

Trying to decide what to get my husband for his birthday

by The Diva

I just realized that my husbands birthday is coming up. It’s next weekend! He’s going to be 45.

In our home we don’t care all that much about birthdays, but 45 is a big birthday, so I’m trying to think of something nice to get him.

He’s actually been playing softball with a team from work once a week this summer … so maybe one of those personalized baseball bats would make a nice gift.

Music is his world though. He plays guitar and 13 other instruments. You wouldn’t believe how cluttered our house is with instruments and music related items and equiptment. If we weren’t already watching “It might get Loud” on TV right now I’d get him that DVD. He’s certainly enjoying watching The Edge, Jimmy Page and Jack Black talk about guitars and their musical backgrounds and what they think of the music industry as it’s evolved in their time as musicians.

Maybe I’ll take a look around and see if I can find some more music (guitar) related documentaries on DVD that I could get for him. I know he’d love it.

Any suggestions?

A new look

by The Diva

I finally bit the bullet and got some new glasses.

I’d been wearing the same pair for about five years and I’d noticed that my glasses were getting dirty so much easier than they used to (perhaps the coating was wearing down?) and I thought my vision might have changed a bit.

So a couple of weeks ago I made an appointment with an optometrist to get my eyes checked and then, armed with a new, and only slightly changed, prescription I started the search for new eyewear.

I think I went to about four different stores that sold eye glasses and contacts. I’m certain I tried on at least 100 pairs of glasses before I finally found some I liked. Three of the stores seemed to mainly carry tiny oblong or rectangular lenses. I guess that’s in these days, but they don’t suit everyone’s face – certainly not mine!

The final store that I went in to had a huge selection of frames and the man that started helping me within minutes of walking in really new what he was talking about. I told him what I was looking for – semi rimless or rimless glasses and NOT rectangular and within seconds he was holding a pair that suited me perfectly.

Oh and get this … we got talking and I found out that his wife used to be in the Jewelry trade, just like me, and along with designing jewelry she also sold wholesale diamonds. I think I knew her back when I was in the business.

Anyway, I ended up getting a pair of Transition lenses and my second pair of glasses just have normal lenses.

I’ve only had my new glasses since Saturday and I’m still getting used to them, but I think it’s going to take a while to get used to the Transitions. They are pretty good outdoors, well unless I’m looking directly into the sun or a very bright spot, then they aren’t quite dark enough. however they are a little slow to change back to clear when I go inside and when they are clear I can see reflections or prisms on the outside edges of the lenses. The guy at the optical store said that would stop bothering me … but I don’t know.

I’m glad I got two pair of glasses. I think I’ll try to just use the transition ones when I’m going outside and use the normal pair when I’m staying home or working on the computer.

Have you tried the new Transition lenses? What are your thoughts on them?

Out come the Vultures

by The Diva

The last time Google did a Page Rank update (the beginning of April I believe) several of my blogs and websites went up in Rank .. not this one though I’m afraid.

Anyway … the increase in pagerank seems to have brought all the “vultures” out of the wood work. In the last week or two I’ve received several requests on most of my blogs for private sales ranging from links for things like the top rated diet pills to home decor, to requests for special blog posts and people offering their win articles for my blogs.

I’ve also been getting a lot more comment spam on my sites too – people looking for free links on websites with decent page rank … that game doesn’t work very well with me though as I move anything I think is from someone spamming my sites right into the Akismet spam box.

It’s always nice to know that companies and marketers think that your website is worth advertising on but there are so many scammers out there it can be hard to sift through all the offers and requests.

I used to accept a lot of private advertising offers but I’ve pretty much stopped that in recent months. It’s a lot of trouble and until I find some system that makes it easier to manage direct sales on my many many websites I think I’ll hold off for a while.

Do you accept private advertising on your site? How do you manage things? How do you take payment?
