Top Tips: How To Create The Ideal Bedroom

by Trish

Creating the ideal bedroom can often prove a difficult challenge. In the past I have struggled massively when trying to perfect the most difficult room in the house. Yes it’s true that only you and your partner stay in there but there is still a sense of competition that surrounds the bedroom.

You want to have the biggest bed with the comfiest mattress accompanied by the greatest mirror anyone has every laid their eyes on. I’m not really sure who you are competing with but if it helps you create a beautiful bedroom then go ahead.

This article will attempt to show you three simple ways in which you can transform your bedroom into the most beautiful room in the house and that will leave your friends jealous. Not only will it look better and make your house more aesthetically pleasing as a whole it will add a bit of spice to the physical side of the relationship.

It’s incredible what clean sheets and a lock on the door can do for your love life.

Bedroom

Think Big

You have got to have vision, it is very important that you know what you want from your bedroom and don’t stop until you achieve what you want. If you are going to take the plunge and create the ideal bedroom then you have to make sure you do it properly, no half hearted efforts will do.

My advice is if you are not going to do the job properly then don’t bother doing it at all, if you don’t put your all into it, it will be noticeable. Having a vision and chasing it is important, it can prove to be extremely rewarding if you execute the design of the room as you desired.

If you have visitors round you want the master bedroom to be the centre piece of the house, after all it is a reflection of you and your partners personality.

Be Brave

Don’t be afraid to break the mould, if there is a particular theme that you want to execute then go for it, there can be no repercussions as it is your personal room. Think outside the box and choose a theme for your room, there are countless examples online so have a shop round, see what tickles your fancy.

Make sure you add some vibrant colour to the room, so many people have boring paint colors and this just brings down the whole mood and vibe in the room. Ensure that you both agree or make a compromise if necessary but please have colored walls; it will make all the difference and set the mood.

Be Selfish

This is your bedroom and nobody else’s so do be selfish, decorate it how you like and don’t scrimp on cost (if you can afford to). Superglide is a great example of a potential company that could help fit your wardrobes. They custom fit their fittings and plan their design around what you want and what kind of vibe you are going for in the room.

Check out their website for some examples, the same applies for the bed frame, mattress and flooring. All of these aspects need to be researched and mastered in order to ensure your new bedroom is perfect.

Here’s Why Great Furniture Doesn’t Need To Break The Bank…

by Trish

Furniture is something that almost everyone will wind up buying at some point in their life. Even if you lead a spartan existence chances are you will still have a need for a few basic pieces of furniture such as a bed, a table, some chairs and the like.

While furniture can be expensive, you don’t have to break your wallet to buy it. There are a lot of things a savvy consumer can do to make sure they get high quality furniture without paying ridiculous amounts of money.

The truth is that no matter what you do, there is going to be some cost to buying furniture. It costs money to get the materials to make it and it costs money to pay the people who make it. However, while there is a cost to furniture, there are also ways to make sure you don’t pay more than you have to.

Search Online

As with most things, you can find great deals on furniture online. In fact a lot of people who do handmade furniture rely on internet traffic to make their business profitable. While you can find some great deals on furniture online there are two big problems with this.

The first is that you have no way to test the furniture. While you can see how it looks and generally read what other customers have said about the furniture, you can’t test it out. The second problem with buying furniture online is getting it to your house.

While there are many different ways to ship furniture, it can be pretty pricey to get delivered to you. So if you buy furniture online, keep an eye on what it is going to cost you to get it shipped to your house. Ideally you are looking for companies that make the shipping part of the sales price.

Look in Classifieds

The classified section of your paper is a great place to find good deals on furniture. While most of what is offered is used, some of it is actually still fairly new. Also because furniture can be expensive, a lot of people work really hard to take care of their stuff.

When you look in the classifieds for furniture you might also want to keep an eye out for estate sales or similar things since furniture is often a large part of these events.

Wait for the Going Out of Business Sale

If you have ever paid much attention to furniture store commercials, it seems like they are always going out of business. While there are actually some furniture stores that do go out of business, a lot of the times these ads are made simply to get you in their store for a big sale.

These sales are a great time to find excellent bargains on furniture. While most of the time these sales are actually clearance sales to make room for the new models of everything, the furniture is still worth having even if it is not the newest stuff out there.

In the end, it really is pretty easy to find good deals on high quality furniture. The main thing to keep in mind is that you need to be a little patient and willing to do some looking. Don’t give up if you don’t find anything at first, keep looking and keep waiting for a deal to show up.

There are lots of good deals on furniture out there and if you can be patient and put some effort into finding it, you don’t have to break your bank to get furniture.

How To Turn A Small Room Into A Castle When Your Forced To Rent

by Trish

Living at home is never easy when you can’t afford a place of your own. Your parents are probably the loveliest people in the world, but the amount of things you can do are very limited when you don’t have somewhere to call your own. After a while it could get to you and you’ll have no choice but to find somewhere. You shouldn’t let it get that far and start looking for a place right now. You could easily afford somewhere if you rented out a nice room. It’s still living with someone else, but at least it’s not your parents.

If you do decide to rent a room it could be hard if you’re not prepared. You won’t feel as comfortable wandering around the house, especially in the beginning when you’re not friends with the person you’re renting from. When that’s the case you have to make sure your little room is as comfortable as possible. If it’s not you will soon get fed up, because you have to spend a lot of time in your room by yourself. You can’t just get up and lay on someone’s couch when they want to watch TV. Do you know how you can turn your room into a castle?

Get the best bed your money can buy

When you spend more time that normal in the room it means your bed is something you’ll get quite friendly with. That means you should get one that’s as comfortable as you can possibly afford. The mattress especially has to feel like heaven when you lie down. Not because it will allow you to sleep better, but because you’ll spend hours laying in it at night reading books or watching TV. Go for gold and get very comfortable sheets and pillows to go along with it and you won’t go far wrong.

Squeeze in a computer desk

At home you maybe had a big desk in your room, or perhaps you even lay on your bed with the laptop on your stomach. When your room becomes your castle you will probably be spending a lot of time on the computer, so you want a little desk that you can sit at. It doesn’t need to be big because it probably won’t fit in the room anyway, but something good enough to feel like you’re important will make you feel much better and more grown up.

Buy a leather chair

You also want to get yourself a leather chair, which isn’t that expensive when you think about it. You could use a normal chair but eventually you will realize you’re not comfortable and you’ll get claustrophobic. If you never spent money on beer and pizza for a month you could probably get yourself one your backside would thank you for. It will become the centerpiece of your room and something you cherish. Especially if it reclines and you never end up reaching your bed at night.

Make it look as sexy as possible

When you were living at home I bet you didn’t treat your bedroom as an actual room. Not a grownup room, anyway. Did you still have your posters up that were there when you were a child? Now you need to forget about everything you had in the past. If you want the walls to be a certain color you can paint them, with permission of course. Buy some cheap art work for a touch of class. Something you will stare at when you walk into the room. Buy a big lava lamp if you think it will look stylish. Just start treating it like you would a room in your own pad and make it look sexy.

How To Choose The Right Bed For You

by Trish

People spend around a third of their time in bed. That’s a long time, so it’s very important to make sure you choose the right bed for you! Follow these simple guidelines to help you decide what would be the best bed for you.

Different Types of Bed

The first thing to consider when buying a bed, of course, is the size you want it to be. Single beds are the most common for children, and it’s quite rare that a parent will let their child have a bigger bed than this, at least until they’re older. Adults, on the other hand, are likely to have at least a double bed. If you’re a single adult, then a double bed may be fine to suit your needs, however if you’re part of a couple you may want to upgrade to a bigger king size bed, to allow yourself more room to move – unless neither of you moves much while you’re trying to sleep!

Another option is the bunk bed – this can either be one bed on top of another, or it can be a single bed which requires a ladder to get into, with a desk area set up underneath it. Bunk beds are great for people who have two or more children, and the desk option is useful if you have a child studying in school who likes to do their homework in the comfort of their own bedroom.

If you enjoy a luxurious, glamorous lifestyle, you may enjoy a four-poster bed – the ultimate in sophistication! A four-poster bed will add a touch of class to any bedroom, and you’ll feel spectacular when you wake up in it each morning. All you need are some Egyptian cotton sheets to match!

If you have limited space, you should consider either a wall bed or a sofa bed. A wall bed is perfect for studios with very little space, and no designated bedroom. Wall beds simply fold up into the wall during the day when not in use, and can be pulled back down at night when you want to go to sleep. Sofa beds are what they sound like – sofas that double as beds – and they require a little extra effort to get out every day, needing the sofa cushions to be moved and the bed frame to be unpacked, however they’re a great option if you can’t install a wall bed or if you wouldn’t have room for a sofa otherwise!

Other Considerations

Beds usually have some storage space built into them, either in the form of drawers, or simply by the bed frame being raised a foot or so from the ground. This can be great if you have a lot of things you don’t use often – for instance, seasonal decorations and clothing – and is an easy way to keep things out of sight. If you choose a raised bed, you’ll need to remember to clean under there sometimes, because dust builds up very quickly!

The size of the room is very important when deciding on your bed – you wouldn’t get a four-poster bed in a room with low ceilings, for example, nor would you put a king size bed in a small room! If you have two children and limited space, a bunk bed would be perfect.

Cost should also be taken into consideration, although it’s a good idea to buy the best bed you can afford,as it’s such an important part of your life! However, if you’re buying a bed for your guest room, it’s okay to spend a little less, as it won’t get used nearly so often, and your guests will just be grateful to get a bed rather than a sofa to sleep on!

Top Feng Shui Tips For The Bedroom

by Trish

Our bedrooms were designed for two activities: rest and romance. However, our busy lifestyles, coupled with the need to constantly multi-task or exercise, has rendered the bedroom more of an extension of the office or the gym than a haven for rejuvenation. The ubiquitous television has furthered reduced the bedroom to a gathering place for strangers rather than a sanctuary for solitude.

By using the principles of Feng Shui, we can restore our bedrooms to the heavens they were intended to be as well as increase our vitality, our health and the quality of our romantic relationships.

The First Easy Steps

Remove electronics

Feng Shui for the bedroom begins with removing all electronic and electrical devices from the bedroom, especially the television. If there is a need for an alarm clock, then place it as far from the bed as possible. However, all other electronic and electrical devices need to be removed from the room, including the telephone.

Electronic devices emit electrical signals even when they are turned off. These signals interfere with your sleep cycles as well as the energy in the room. Removing these interferences will result in more restful sleep.

Clear the Air

Another easy step is to open the windows every day so that energy in the room does not stagnate. This can also be accomplished by the use of a ceiling fan, but don’t use the fan while you’re sleeping.

Assume the positions

The principles of Feng Shui state that certain positions and styles of furniture are better than others. For example, the bed should:

• Not be placed under the window because this weakens your energy.

• Be placed against a solid wall.

• Not be in line with the door, which is called the coffin position, although the door should be plainly visible.

• Not be placed underneath overhead beams as this symbolizes the possibility of death.

Headboards should be made of wood rather than metal; padded headboards are also acceptable. There should be ample free space under the bed in order to facilitate the free flow of energy.

Sharp corners should be avoided in Feng Shui because rounded shapes facilitate the free flow of energy whereas sharp corners block it.

Mirrors facing the bed are verboten in Feng Shui. The energy leaves the body at night and will be startled if it sees itself reflected in the mirror; this will cause restless sleep or nightmares. Large mirrors are also thought to promote infidelity.

The Finish Line

Keep your bedroom free of clutter.

Displayed items should be kept to a minimum and only displayed in pairs. In other words, use two candles, two nightstands, and so forth. This promotes the concept of a couple whereas a single item promotes the concept of singlehood. However, twin mattresses should be avoided because this promotes separation. Try to use symbolic items, such as the endless knot, that promote the relationship.

Avoid having an aquarium in the bedroom as the movement of the water will promote the perpetual movement of energy in the room and will result in restless sleep. Plants and flowers promote the very active yang energy so they should be avoided as well.

Your bedroom should be relatively quiet and only items that pertain to you and your partner should be in it. Pictures of friends and relatives should be displayed elsewhere. Use cool and soothing colors such as tones of beige, green, blue and lavender and avoid bright colors such as red, vivid purple and so forth, as these promote the movement of energy rather than tranquility.

By using the concepts of Feng Shui in your bedroom, you can revitalize your romance as well as your individual energy and restore your bedroom to the haven it was meant to be!
