The start of another Staycation

by The Diva

My husband has next week off work. No he’s not on holiday. Unfortunately he’s on temporary lay off from work, but you know what, we’re going to treat it like a holiday. We’re just not going to spend much money – because we don’t have any to spend!

I realized the other day that we haven’t brought our dog to the dog beach yet this year. We normally bring her several times each summer. It’s very odd that we haven’t brought her to Cherry beach yet. So … unless the weather is bad on Monday I think we’re going to go to the beach. Chris and I can camp out on the sand and Midnight can frolic in the water like she loves to do.

Maybe later in the week we’ll get the hitch bike racks on the car and take our bikes to a park with some great bike trails and go for a really good bike ride. If my knee can handle it of course.

I guess you’d call this a staycation. Oh and the Beaches Jazz Festival is on right now, with the Beaches Street Jazzfestival being on next week when my husband is off … so well definitely go and do that. We can even bring the dog to that one if we want. So this is ok. It’s great that we live in a city with so much to do!

My silly leash pulling dog

by The Diva

I was just saying on one of my other blogs that my dog gave me a real work out today. I discovered that if I only used her leash on her rather than her prong collar as well as leash that I get a massive workout.

Of course … along with a workout I’m sure if I did this all the time I’d probably have more than a few injuries since I also have a bad back and bad knees. LOL But I’m guess I wouldn’t need to use something like Lipofuze as I have a feeling that with all that pulling on the leash that my dog does when she doesn’t have her prong collar on I must burn double the calories!

We were out talking with our neighbors and our dog Midnight was over excited and wanting to explored their yard and it was all I could do to just hold on to the leash! She’s crazy when she’s showing off in front of people she likes. Silly dog!

Waiting for Spring to warm up

by The Diva

I can’t believe how much rain we’ve been getting here in Toronto. It seems that every time I try to go outside with the dog it starts pouring! Oh and our dog is a Lab .. a dog that traditionally loves water, but for some reason not rain drops. Uh huh … strange dog.

When we come back inside she goes to her crate where we keep a folded towel and she jumps up to stand at the side of the crate to look at it, indicating to me that she wants me to get the towel to dry her off … even if she’s not really all that wet because really she just wants to play with the towel. My dog is just too smart.

It’s been raining so much or other wise so miserable for the last few days that we really haven’t been out as much as we normally are. I took advantage of a break in the rain this afternoon and took the dog out for a long walk. While I was out I ran into one of my neighbors, a lady who just loves my dog and always stops to pet her and gives her a treat every time she sees her, and I guess she’s working from home these days. She told me she was just taking a break from working on her computer. She was busy trying to install inetsoft performance management software for her company and then it was back to work for her.

It seems more and more of my neighbors are working from home. I’ve worked from home (being sick on medical leave) for five years but when I first started blogging and doing some work from home I was the only one in the neighborhood that I know of working from home … now just about every house seems to have a person staying home doing work.

Anyway … I’m hoping that the rain will stop soon and Spring will start to warm up to normal temps. It’s been cold, wet and just kind of miserable. How has it been in your area?

My dog is a massive ham

by The Diva

My dog is such a ham. She’s fairly obedient but she’s also very playful. Now that it’s been snowing outside she’s enjoying going outside and playing in the snow. It must be nice to have a fur coat! It’s been cold here so I don’t go out for long with her, but we go out often … she doesn’t show any signs of being too cold though.

I wish I had one of those tiny hand held camcorders because as I said my dog is a total ham. I know I could film her daily. For example, when we go outside in the snow she does this face plow thing with her behind up in the air as she pushes her face through the snow. It’s kind of funny. I know it makes others laugh when they see her.

She also likes to find some clean snow to roll around in. I guess this is her version of doggy snow angels?

Inside the house she’s just as much of a ham as inside. When she wants to play with a toy- ie have us slide her bone across the floor at her (dog hockey) she starts jumping up and down in place as if she’s on a trampoline. It’s so cute. I’m pretty sure that if I managed to get it on tape and posted it on Youtube it would be a popular video because I haven’t seen very many dogs that jump like she does.

Do you have a dog that’s a real ham? She can be a bit of a pain as she demands attention, but I have to say she enriches my life.

No party for us tonight

by The Diva

My husband and I were supposed to go out of town for a party this evening but we decided to stay home instead.

I thought we were going to go to the party and that the only thing that would keep us from going would be the weather, but the long drive back and forth was a big deterrent too. It would have been close to two hours each way!

Also … we can’t bring our dog to our friends house because she hates dogs, so our Lab would have had to stay home on her own … and if the weather turned while we were going our dog might even end up being on her own over night. Not really a good situation.

So instead of going out to a party we’re staying home and having a great dinner. Our dog also had a nice long walk a little while ago. While we were out walking her we ran into one of our neighbors and talked to him for a while. He’s been trying to help my husband get a job with our city bus company. the man was smoking what I think was one of those monte cristo cigars. He told us he’d received the cigar as a Christmas gift from a friend at work and offered another to my husband … but we both just quit smoking so he passed on that!

I had wanted to go to the party this evening … but we’ll see our friend next weekend at Christmas. The long drive was just too much.
