Concerned about a sweet neighbor

by The Diva

My neighbor across the street is a widow. She’s an older lady who lives alone and she’s been having a hard time lately. Luckily for her she has two great sons that look in on her frequently and come over to do yard work and get her groceries etc.

For a lady of her age she normally pretty spry. I mean, I see her out walking around every day and even driving her car once or twice a day. I think for a lady in her mid to late 80’s that’s pretty darn good! And no – she doesn’t appear to be a scary driver.

The reason I said she’s been having a hard time was because she just had surgery on one of her eyes and it didn’t go all that well to begin with so for a week or so she had blurry vision and couldn’t drive or even walk around very easily outside. I felt bad for her. I was offering to do extra things for her if she wanted. She did call me a few times to help her out.

One of the times I went over to help her with something we end up sitting down and talking over a cup of coffee and I noticed her mothers ring. She has a stone in it for each of her kids and each of her grandchildren. When I was a jeweler I used to make rings like that quite often. We called them Family Rings though.

My neighbor seems to be doing well now. She got the stitches out of her eye a few days ago and that made a huge improvement. That sounds funny to say “stitches out of her eye” doesn’t it?

Why is the price of everything going up and up?

by The Diva

It seems like the cost of everything is going up, doesn’t it?

Groceries is more expensive, especially fresh produce! Then there’s the cost of electricity and home heating … both of those bills went up for us this year too. Just how high do they think they can hike the rates anyway?

Now we just found out that our car insurance is going up … even though both my husband and I have absolutely perfect driving records. No tickets, no infractions – nothing and we’ve both been driving for over 20 years … so wouldn’t you think our rates would go down, not up?

So now I’m trying to find car insurance cheap if that’s at all possible. Perhaps we’ll try calling our insurance company first and ask them why our rates are going up so much. It’s just unbelievable.

Are you as frustrated as we are with the price of just about everything going up so much?

Remembering to use cloth bags when we shop

by The Diva

Last year all of the grocery stores here in Ontario and I believe across Canada as a whole started charging 5 cents for plastic grocery bags. This of course was a way to remind people that plastic bags aren’t good for the environment and that we should be bringing our reusuable bags to the store every time we come.

This didn’t bother us all that much as we’d been using cloth reusuable bags for years. The only time we use plastic bags these days is when we forget to bring our bags from our home. The reason this happens is because when we bring our groceries home and unpack it we place the cloth bags on our enclosed front porch and whichever of us goes to the car next is to put them in the trunk … well that doesn’t always happen! Which is of course the reason why we sometimes show up at the grocery store and need to buy plastic bags … or carry our items out in our hands. LOL

I think I might buy a few more custom tote bags so we’ll always have some in the car. I’d like to find some large, yet really thin ones that I could fold up and put in my purse too. Then we’d never ever need to buy a plastic bag at any store ever again.

Do you use clothe bags when you go shopping? If you don’t – Why not?
