Helping relatives move

by The Diva

My husband just left to go and help his cousin and his wife move into an apartment.

I’m not quite sure what happened, but they had a house outside the city and I guess they got into some money troubles and had to sell. Their house was on the market for at least six months and just sold about two weeks ago and now, his cousin is moving back into the city. I’m not exactly sure why their moving so quickly .. maybe their house had a fast closing date?

Anyway .. usually I would help with a move, but I’m just not feeling all that well today. So I’m staying home with our dog and my husband is running around helping with the heavy lifting. Hmmm maybe I got the better deal?

I think my husband’s cousin is going to be changing job soon too. He’s been working for a company that transfers data to microfishe … but I think that’s fazing into digital. He mentioned something about getting into Forex trading the last time I talked to him. I think he bought some Forex trading software and he’s been teaching himself how to use it in his spare time. Maybe he’ll figure out how to make some good money on the side – even if he doesn’t end up changing jobs.

Anyway … it’s a late day move … my husband just left the house at 3 pm! I have no idea when he’ll be home. I also think his aunt is feeding the gang. She mentioned something about making Chili when I was talking to her on the phone. Hmmm … maybe Chris can talk her into letting him bring some of her homemade chili home for me? She apparently makes delicious chili. Of course, it probably won’t sit all that well on my stomach … but then, nothing I eat this week has.

No money yet our bills keep getting bigger

by The Diva

I’m so frustrated about money and bills right now. We’ve been having a tough year financially. There just isn’t enough money coming in, and it seems that every time we turn around something breaks down or needs to be fixed or replaced.

The latest in a long list of things to be replaced this year was the car. Our old car (it was 14 years old) died at the beginning of August and we bit the bullet and bought a used car to replace it. This of course is coming after we bought a new washing machine and dryer and a few kitchen appliances that had needed replacing earlier in the year.

Now we’re literally counting our pennies to pay the bills, buy groceries and of course to get my medications for my Crohns. One slip and we’ll be in terrible trouble. Actually I think we’re pretty much in terrible trouble right now – I’m just refusing to admit it.

Now I’ve just found out that our car insurance rates have gone up. I thought that they would be the same or be a little lower, especially since we have a newer – safer and I think more environmentally “correct” car. In fact that’s what our insurance company led us to believe when we were talking to them when we were transferring the insurance over from the old car to the new car.

Wrong … the bill is higher – at least for a few months anyway, until our new contract kicks in sometime in the new year (I think March) and then it will be a little lower, but it might not be lower than what it had been with the old car.

Our new car is a 4 door, 4 cylinder, sedan – should be fairly cheap to insure right? On top of that my husband and I have both been driving for over 25 years each -and we have PERFECT driving records. No accidents, no tickets, no driving infractions – nothing – ever. Our insurance company says they’re giving us a discount for our perfect driving records, but uhm … It really doesn’t feel like it.

Anyway … everything seems to be going up. We heat our house with oil and that’s gone up a bit this year, as has our electricity rates. Even our mortgage went up a little bit earlier today. So the budget I made a week ago needs to be reworked … to bad I haven’t figured out a way to add more money to our budget. LOL

I have a feeling we might be taking in a border in the next month or two if things keep going downhill.

Time to tighten our belts – tight finances

by The Diva

My husband and I are in a financial crunch right now. We just had to buy a new car when our old one unexpectedly died.

Man … we didn’t have any money to spare either. Well, I guess we had enough available to us to swing buying a used car, but that’s it. Now we have to watch every penny!

I’m now scratching my head and trying to figure out ways to both save and make more money. I have several websites and blogs and that’s the main way I earn income these days since I’m on medical leave from my work. Somehow though I need to come up with a few hundred dollars more per month.

Actually I cam across some Forex training webinars and I was thinking about looking into them … hey who knows, maybe I’d be good at. If I were, it would sure be a good way to make some much needed money! Anyone try this?

Thinking of ways to make extra money – maybe a second job?

by The Diva

I know that the economy is supposed to be getting better, but we’re still feeling the crunch here.

I’ve been off work, on medical leave, for over five years now. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long, but my Crohn’s disease just won’t settle down. I wish it would! I’m an ER nurse and believe it or not, I love my job.

My husband also works in the hospital. He’s an OR day surgery attendant. Unfortunately … the hospital is over budget this year and my husband has to go through 3 sets of rolling layoffs. He’s already had his first two weeks off do to these lay offs and he’s going to have to be off work for two weeks in March and June.

That’s going to hit us hard.

I do make some money via the internet as I have a number of blogs and websites and I allow advertising on them, so it’s not like I’m not bringing in any income while I’m on medical leave, but we need my husbands salary to round out things and keep us afloat.

I’m sure we’re not the only ones in this position.

My husband has started to think about trying to find a job that he can do on the weekends or evenings. Many many years ago he used to work part time for catering companies – as a bartender and or waiter. He made pretty good money doing that and the tips were great so he might look into getting back into that – especially for the four weeks that he’s going to be laid off in the coming months.

He also has been a guitar player since he was nine. He’s very good and he also plays 13 other instruments. He’s often thought about teaching others to play guitar so he’s trying to find a way to get some students.

Are times tough in your area? Have you been thinking of ways to make some extra money? Perhaps you’re working two or more jobs?

I’d love to hear how you’re getting by in this tough economy.
