5 Ways To Change Your Home Office To Skyrocket Your Productivity

by Trish

It’s common knowledge that you’re more productive when you enjoy your office environment. That’s not the greatest thing in the world when you work in an office with lots of other people at a big company. Your boss will want to save money and unless you work for Facebook you might not be provided with what you really want. It doesn’t matter when you work from home. When you are your own boss you get to make your own rules.

If you work in a horrible office it’s because of your own doing. You can’t blame anyone else. If you are not happy with your current setup then change it. It’s your house and all it takes is for you to go out and pick up a few things and it could change the way you work in the future. Even some simple things could skyrocket your productivity and you would see an increase in profits. Here’s a few things you can do to get started.

Make use of the walls

You have plenty of space all around you, so take full advantage of it. Put some white boards up on the walls and you’ll be able to write down all your ideas when they pop into your head. When you can turn around to write something down it makes life much easier. Having something so big to write on gives you the ability to keep all your plans firmly in your mind. You can pick up white boards from anywhere and if you can’t fit them yourself, I’m sure you could find a helpful neighbor to give you a hand.

Keep it looking bright

Nobody is productive in a dark office, unless it’s a person who has had a few too many the night before. If your office looks nice and bright it will change the way you feel. It will energize you and allow you to get on with some seriously hard work. If there’s any way you can have your window size increased it could be something to think about. Cheaper options include more lights or stronger bulbs.

Use a chair with wheels

Because it’s your home you might not feel the need to ruin your carpet by using a chair with wheels. This is a huge mistake. It might not feel like it, but you will waste a lot of time moving around if you use a chair without wheels and it will definitely eat into your productivity. That doesn’t mean you need to choose something that’s not comfortable. There’s plenty of great leather chairs that will allow you to move as freely as you like.

Lay it out properly

When you are planning where everything will go, you should be thinking about what will make it as easy as possible for you to get stuff done. Things that don’t get used as much should be at the back of the room. Things you use all the time should be within arms reach of the computer. You also need to be able to move about freely, so you don’t want stuff lying around and getting in your way. If you take a few hours to plan everything carefully it will definitely pay you back a thousand times over in the future.

Use bright colors

This one is a little different to the brightness one. It’s more than making the place look brighter, but actually how you feel. When you step into a room with funky colors it’s going to leave you more perked up and feeling creative. How can you expect to be creative in a room that resembles a funeral home? If you have a boring job then stick with the white and brown, but jazz it up a little if your job is exciting or you want it be to.
