I feel like I’m in school again

by The Diva

I feel like I’ve gone back to school. I’m preparing to go back to work as a nurse and since I’ve been on medical leave for six years I decided that it would be a good idea if pulled out my old medical books and just refreshed myself on the basics.

I know everything is still in my head and naturally all that I know is not in my books because I’ve learned quite a bit from my experiences as well. However every little bit helps.

I know that a lot of medications have changed and or new medications are being used just in the six years that I’ve been off work so that’s another thing that I’m trying to brush up on as well. When I had my meeting in the hospitals Human Resources department last week they did suggest to me that I take a look at the new medications for Diabetes, Hypertension, things like the side effects of hexaghen and so on.

I just wish I knew what area of the hospital I’m going to be placed in. I guess it all depends on where there’s an opening. My old job in the ER is not available at this time but I’ll be trying to get back there once I get back in the hospital I’m sure.

My husbands hours keep changing at work

by The Diva

My husbands workplace is really messing up his schedule. One of his co-workers was going to go back to school so they hired a new employee and shortly after the new guy was hired, but before he started the guy who’d said he was going to go back to school and had asked to cut down his hours said he wasn’t going back to school.

Unfortunately, by this time it was too late to “unhire” the new guy so my husband, Chris, the guy who was going back to school and then wasn’t and another guy all lost one shift per week to accommodate the new hire! So my husband went down from four shifts a week to three.

Now my husband is an attendant in the Recovery Room and he came up with an idea … he asked his boss if he could train in the Operating Room as they’re always short staffed there so over the last few weeks he’s been training one day a week there. Now this week the new guy started in the Recovery room and after the first day he couldn’t handle how busy it was and he’s going back to his old job in the hospital!

Unfortunately my husbands hours are still in jeopardy. The guy who was going to go back to school is going to go back in January and now another coworker wants to cut back his hours so they will still need to hire another worker … so my husband might be able to pick up more hours in the Operating Room now that he’s been trained there .. but he’s now thinking about starting over and going back to school too .. he’s noticed a demand in Physical Therapist Jobs so maybe going back to school for a career as a physical therapist.

We’re just hoping that over the next few months he gets enough hours for us to scrape by!

Getting Through The Home School Math Curriculum

by The Diva

A lot of us can think back to the days when we were in school and we would complain how there is no possible way we would ever use most of the stuff that was being taught to us. And now that we are adults we can see that we were right all along but we cannot let that judge what we allow our children to sip out on when it comes to education. Too many parents within the home school program allow their children to relax on subjects that they feel the child may never actually us.

The sad thing is though that you never know what your child may end up wanting to go to college for and without the basic knowledge of the home school math curriculum your child could very well be left behind. The basics of the home school math curriculum are pretty easy to learn so you have to just push your child through it because it is important that he or she does not give up. There is nothing wrong with being frustrated over something but you cannot let them learn that it is time to give up when something gets a little rough.

Something To Remember About The Home School Math Curriculum

While they and even you, may feel that they will never use half of the stuff in the home school math curriculum it is important that he or she keeps pushing ahead. The grades that are achieved out of the home school math curriculum is that it could help them get into the college of their choice. If the colleges see that the student always just flunked out of the home school math curriculum then they may not be all that willing to let them into their college and this could prove to be a big problem.

Also the love of math that the child could gain from pushing through the home school math curriculum is something that could be very beneficial to the child in their adult years. So no matter how hard you child tries to stay away from the home school math curriculum you need to make sure that you keep them focused and on the right track. In the end all of your efforts will pay off. After a while, your children will stop complaining and just deal with the work because it will be widely known that you are not going to just cave in and that is a wonderful lesson for him or her to learn.
