I need to start a new fitness routine

by The Diva

Every time I look over at our TV stand I see our Wii. I hate to admit it, but I haven’t used my Wii in ages!

I think it’s been four or five months since I played a game or did a cardio workout on my Wii.

Later this evening I’m going to make up a mini workout schedule. I’m still sick (Crohn’s, Migraines, back pain) so I can’t get too ambitious, but I know that if I continue to not do anything I’ll probably feel worse and worse.

So … if I at least make a plan to get out and take a long walk, with the dog, at least twice a week, and to pull out the Wii and do one or two of my favorite workouts like the Gold Gyms Cardio Boxing twice a week as well I’ll be on my way to better health. At the very least I won’t feel compelled to research belly fat burners because four low level to medium level workouts a week should at least maintain my weight if not take off a few pounds. Certainly it should tone my muscles.

I also have an elliptical machine upstairs in a spare bedroom gathering dust. Actually my husband currently has two of his guitars resting on it right now. If I can start doing some workouts – hopefully beginning this week, maybe, by the time the bad weather arrives in November or December, I’ll be ready to start using the elliptical again.

Do you workout at home or at a fitness club regularly? Do you use a Wii to get your body moving? Tell me what you do to try to stay fit.

We just can’t seem to get motivated to finish our home renovations

by The Diva

I vowed earlier this year that this would be the year that we’d finish our renovations. So far that hasn’t happened!

We’ve actually been putting off finishing our renovations for 6 or more years! Can you believe that I’ve been living in a house that has two by one strapping spaced about a two feet apart all across the living room and dining room ceiling for 6 years or so? All that’s left to be done to finish the ceiling is for us to put up the tin ceiling tiles that we purchased about 8 years ago.

My husband and I both ended up having some bad health problems about 6 years ago so it made sense to put a hold on our reno. We also had some bad family tragedies happen around that time too .. but now, even though I’m still sick with Crohn’s we should be able to slowly start finishing the renovations that we started.

I mean .. all we have to do is put those tin ceiling tiles up, cut and apply baseboards, quarter round and maybe some molding around the top of the walls where it meets the ceiling and we’ll pretty much be done our living room dining room renovation.

Then we can either start on the kitchen or the basement. We just have to get motivated to get started!

I’ve been trying to motivate myself by looking at decor websites and magazines …I’m really interested in the look of a stone sink for our kitchen .. but I’m not sure it’s quite as easy to care for as a stainless steel sink … it also might cost more … so we’ll see.

Have you ever done renovations on your home? If so did you kind of stall at some point? If you did, what did you do to get yourself motivated again to start working on your renovation projects again?

More house guests? Again? Ahhhhh!

by The Diva

A simple question – do you love it or do you hate it when the in-laws call at the last minute and say they are coming for a visit? Oh and by visit I mean, they plan to come for the day but end up staying overnight.

Why am I asking? Well … it seems that my in-laws are coming for visits more and more frequently and because they’re older they get tired and don’t always (read almost never) feel up to driving the hour and a half home again come evening so they become weekend guests.

I guess if I had more notice I might not mind so much, but often they call only the day of or the evening before their visit. So if the house isn’t clean or if I’m not feeling all that well I don’t have much time to prepare.

I just found that my in-laws are coming for a visit tomorrow. They’re packing in a full day of shopping, visiting two other relatives and then getting together with my husband and I so unless they’re full of energy tomorrow I can almost guarantee that they’ll end up staying overnight. Oh and when they come for a visit it’s not just my mother in law and father in law, it’s my husbands aunt as well … so both of our spare bedrooms get used and they take over the house, the fridge (with their shopping items) and move our things around … things that we use daily or even hourly! Grrrr

I guess that if they didn’t totally take over my home and basically turn my life upside down I wouldn’t mind so much, but that’s just not the case!

Oh and my brother was just visiting from Vancouver for the last week. He only left yesterday … and even though he’s the best house guest anyone could ask for .. I’m certainly not looking forward to having more house guests again so soon! I’d rather immerse myself in a search for good rates on term life insurance or the best cat litter than have another house guest right now. LOL

So back to my question – do you love it or hate when the in-laws come for a visit – especially a very short notice or no notice visit? I suspect that after reading this you’ll be able to guess what my answer is!

A call that wasn’t what I thought it would be

by The Diva

We got a call last week, early in the morning from our former neighbors son. The first thing to run through my mind when I saw who was calling was that our former elderly neighbor had died and they were calling us to tell us that they were in the midst of funeral planning.

I was wrong. It was about the people that they’re renting our former neighbors house too … yeah those awful scum of the earth people next door to us! They haven’t been paying their rent for months and I guess our former neighbors family finally won their case and are allowed to evict them. Yeah!!! So we’re just sitting tight hoping that those awful people will be gone soon.

I’m certainly glad that our former neighbor is still alive. She’s had about three strokes in the last two years though and she must be about 89 years old though … so I have a feeling that she won’t be around for much longer.

Winter stir crazy

by The Diva

It’s winter here in Toronto and I’m starting to go a little stir crazy. I think I always do come winter since I’m stuck inside due to my illness (Crohns).

I guess I really can’t complain too much this year. We barely have any snow and we’ve spent most of the winter snowless. We don’t tend to get a lot of snow here in Toronto, but we have much less than usual this year! So yes, I could get out more often if I wanted too .. but it’s still kind of cold.

I think I’m going to pull out my old ellipticals that’s stored in one of our spare bedrooms and start trying to use it daily. At least I’ll be getting a little exercise and it will help take away the winter blahs.

Do you work out indoors during the winter – whether you really need to or not?
