Summer in the city

by The Diva

Toronto is such a great city. There’s so many things to do – especially in the summer. I like trying to go out to some of the food festivals and some of the music festivals. There is also several cultural and arts events going on.

Well there’s so many things going on it’s hard to keep up. You could do something almost every day if you wanted to and most of them for free.

One of the things that I haven’t done in quite a while is use Toronto’s fantastic bike trails. I have a pretty bad hand injury right now so I can’t ride my bike at the moment but when my hand is feeling better I think I’m going to put the bike rack on the car and get my bike and go and visit one of the great bike trails and take a long bike ride. It’s great exercise and the trails are quite lovely.

in the meantime, though, until I can get on a bike, I see what else is happening in Toronto and go and enjoy one of the great events that’s happening in the city.

You have interesting things happening in your city? Do you try to get out and enjoy local events?

I’m freezing!

by The Diva

Brrr It’s getting cold! I’m absolutely freezing right now!

Actually I don’t think I can really complain as we’re having a much warmer than normal winter here in Toronto than normal. They were actually saying on the news today that we might break a record for warmest January since the 1930’s or 1940’s!

I can’t complain about snow either. I think it’s only snowed three or four times – snow that stayed on the ground for a few hours or a day or more I mean – or that had to be shoveled.

Still … right now .. I’m freezing … I’m eying some american eagle flannel shirts and seriously considering buying them and having them shipped next day. LOL Of course I could also just wrap myself up in my snuggie and see if I warm up that way too. Yeah .. that might work.

So what kind of winter are you having? Is it warmer than normal in your area too or is it cold and snowy?

The start of another Staycation

by The Diva

My husband has next week off work. No he’s not on holiday. Unfortunately he’s on temporary lay off from work, but you know what, we’re going to treat it like a holiday. We’re just not going to spend much money – because we don’t have any to spend!

I realized the other day that we haven’t brought our dog to the dog beach yet this year. We normally bring her several times each summer. It’s very odd that we haven’t brought her to Cherry beach yet. So … unless the weather is bad on Monday I think we’re going to go to the beach. Chris and I can camp out on the sand and Midnight can frolic in the water like she loves to do.

Maybe later in the week we’ll get the hitch bike racks on the car and take our bikes to a park with some great bike trails and go for a really good bike ride. If my knee can handle it of course.

I guess you’d call this a staycation. Oh and the Beaches Jazz Festival is on right now, with the Beaches Street Jazzfestival being on next week when my husband is off … so well definitely go and do that. We can even bring the dog to that one if we want. So this is ok. It’s great that we live in a city with so much to do!

The Ron Sexsmith Documentary – amazing

by The Diva

My husband and I are just watching the Ron Sexsmith documentary. He’s such and amazing musician – so talented and yet so undiscovered.

The documentary is kind of sad in a way because it seemed like he’s spent his whole career struggling pretty much in poverty, yet everyone seems to be so much in awe of his talent. I live in Toronto and I remember seeing him perform live in a bar in the early 90’s and just being blown away by his talent back then … it’s sad that he still has to struggle to make it in some ways.

I believe he actually had a new album coming out. I’m going to do a search when I finish this post and if I find it I’m going to buy it and play it so loud on my stereo that it blows the speakers right off the speaker stands lol.

A sad day for Toronto Police

by The Diva

There was a funeral for a Toronto police officer this afternoon. Last week officer Ryan Russell was killed when he tried to stop a snow plow that a homeless man had stolen.

The man who had stolen the snow plow literally ran into the police officer and then turned around and drove into him again. Terrible. It was a sad and senseless death of a good man.

The funeral this afternoon on the other hand was amazing. I saw some of it on the news and they said that over 14,000 officers from all over North America attended the funeral! The streets were a sea of uniformed officers. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. I’m sure the family was quite proud of the turn out and I’ll bet that the funeral expenses have been taken care of by the police department or the city as well.

RIP Ryan Russell
