Funny smells and funny stories

by The Diva

Two weeks ago I had to go out of town to attend my cousins funeral. I was away for two days. It was a whirlwind emotional trip with one of my brothers and his wife. The only good thing about the trip was seeing two of my bothers and their wives and of course all of the rest of my relatives including my cousins sisters and her mother who happens to be my only remaining living aunt.

My husband didn’t come with us on our trip. He was working and I don’t think he would have come anyway since we’re in the midst of breaking up. He stayed home and had a bit of a pity party on Facebook and “he says” had his cousin over for a visit. When I returned home on the Saturday the house had a really weird smell. I don’t know what it was exactly … I know my husband is smoking cigarettes again so maybe he had a few cigarettes inside the house. He also likes to smoke cigars every once in a while in fact he used to like Acid cigars so maybe he bought one of those. The house did smell a little cigar like – but not that much.

Anyway .. I wasn’t pleased when I discovered what DH had been up to while I’d been mourning my cousin. I wasn’t happy. Naturally I asked him if he or anyone else was smoking inside the house and of course he said no, but I don’t believe that.

A womans work is never done – more cleaning in the basement for me!

by The Diva

It looks like I’m going to be spending yet another weekend cleaning up and organizing the house. Oh and when I say house I mainly mean basement because that is where the MESS is.

Honestly … I don’t know how or why the basement became the mess that it is, but it needs major work. I know when we first moved into the house 10.5 years ago we stored several boxes downstairs – boxes that contained items that we meant to pull out once all of the renovations were finished. Trouble is, those renovations were never completely finished and those boxes are still down there along with multiple other things. It also doesn’t help that this is an old 1927 house with only four small closets – all on the uppermost floor. Storage space is at a premium.

On top of all this … my soon to be ex – oh yes, I said that – ex – is going away this weekend and he won’t be helping me clean up the basement. He hasn’t really done much in the way of cleaning or sorting out stuff down there anyway so far so I guess I didn’t expect much help, but there’s a lot of heavy stuff to lift so I guess if you guys don’t hear from me call for a search party because I might be buried under a mountain of stuff in the basement. Yes it’s that bad down there. Semi hoarders delight.

There’s even a half decent sectional couch with a pull out bed buried under all those boxes, coats, Christmas decorations and renovation supplies. I hope that by the end of the weekend I might be able to see it!

Speaking of sectionals … I might be moving in a few months because of the situation I alluded to above – although I really don’t want to move. This is MY house. If I do have to move that old sectional is staying in the basement and it can be the new owners problem because it’s huge. However, I’ve been looking at this site – sectional sofa los angeles and they have a nice selection. Perhaps if I do end up in an apartment or condo I’ll get a small sectional – with a pull out bed if possible, as those are always handy for guests!

Ok .. I’m going to relax because tomorrow I have a lot of work to do. If anyone wants to come and lend me a hand you are more than welcome. I could use the help and the company.

Too skinny?

by The Diva

Over the last month or so I’ve noticed that my husband has lost quite a bit of weight. Not that he really needed to lose weight. Oh sure just about everyone can stand to lose five or ten pounds, but about a month ago I started thinking .. geez he’s getting pretty skinny … I started to get worried that he was losing too much weight.

It’s not like he’s been trying to lose weight or that’s he’s found the best weight loss pill ever or anything … I think he’s just been walking a lot more lately and just eating a little less. Nothing too drastic – but it suddenly started to show – fast.

We were in a store earlier today and someone that worked with my husband at the hospital but hadn’t seen him in a while came up to us and made a big deal out of how skinny my husband looked. He actually said it made my husband look older … maybe that will make him eat a bit more? LOL

Anyway .. hopefully my husband doesn’t keep losing weight or I’m going to think something is seriously wrong with him.

Quick visit – busy weekend

by The Diva

My in-laws called last night and now they are here in Toronto for a quick weekend visit.

My father in law used to be more spontaneous than he is now, but I think this weekend he truly was spontaneous. He heard from a woman that he knows that a church here in Toronto was holding a special ceremony in honor of the Irish famine (as in the famine that brought my grandfather here and so on) and he decided that he had to attend so he and my mother in law are in the city for the weekend.

Unfortunately their visit didn’t quite mesh with my husbands work schedule. He’s just starting to do a bit of work on the weekends and he had to work this evening so he spent a bit of time with them this afternoon visiting his uncle in a nursing home but then he had to go to work. They were too tired to do much this evening after their long day. My mother in law doesn’t like to drive after dark … otherwise she’d be out looking for Wholesaleinsurance.net or something! Tomorrow is going to be a busy day so I guess we’ll all just get together tomorrow maybe for breakfast, then to see my husbands uncle again and then off to the church for the special ceremony and reception.

At some point we have to get groceries tomorrow too … hmm maybe in the evening when Chris’ parents drive back home? Maybe.

Strange observations about my neighborhood

by The Diva

It seems like all of my neighbors, the younger ones anyway, are working in computer related companies. I didn’t realize it until recently, but the more I talk to different people in the area, I realize that a good portion of them work in software or make computer parts or sell computer parts.

Strange.

Even my next door neighbors. The lady works at home on her computer … like me, and her husband mentioned something about working with megameeting web conferencing software. I don’t know exactly what he does, something to do with management at his company I think.

Even I work in computers – sort of. I mean, I have several blogs and since I’m home on medical leave I do a lot of writing! Come to think of it … maybe there’s a lot of bloggers in the neighborhood too, because there seems to be a lot of people at home during the day. Strange stuff.
